Hi SandyTechy,
I have the same issue with a HP LaserJet MFP M479dfw printer. I can not scan to SharePoint - it gives me "Protocol Error - Check your Network Settings".
From what I can see online, hundreds of other people have the same issue and are not getting an answer to help them solve that problem. Thanks for copying the instruction / procedure from the manual - but we are already doing all those steps.
Is HP Product Management or HP Engineering aware of the problem ? Do you have a "suggestion box" ? If so, please add this issue to the box.
From what I can tell, the middleware/software that connects the printer to SharePoint is not ready for primetime - either it has some bugs or the users are not entering the correct information for the Sharepoint Domain Name, UserName and Password.

PS: If I can not address this issue, I am seriously thinking of dragging my printer back to the place I bought it from............
