Problem: Document feeder does not work when using scan to computer from printer control panel

Here's what happens:  I have a 5 page document loaded in the feeder.  The control panel indicates the document is loaded.  I hit "Scan" on the control panel.  I hit "computer" and select my computer from the list.  The control panel indicates it is scanning.  The document is never pulled from the document feeder.  The control panel says the scan file has been sent to my computer.  What appears on my computer is a single blank page.  If I use HP Smart, I can scan this document from the feeder to my computer with no problem, but I want to be able to do it from the control panel.  Can anyone help resolve this?
