HP Officejet 5742 was working fine, then decided to refuse to power off and/or to power on. Sometimes after performing the so-called 'power reset' it comes up fine, then freezes and/or displays error message as white text on blue background. Doesn't seem to throw the same error message twice!
Maybe the firmware has got corrupted? Unfortunately as with some much electronics today there doesn't seem to be a way to communicate with the printer/device now that its sulking.
There's no proper power switch (just the usual dumb button which is useless for communicating with electronics that have hung up) nor a proper reset button. 'Value engineering' my a**e - just lots and lots of fed-up customers.
Oh for the days when 'Hewlett-Packard' meant decent engineering, both hardware and software.
The next one I buy won't be HP, thats for sure! Not that the 'competition' are much better.
