Summary:

1)  HP Smart stopped working.

2)  HP Smart says there is firmware update available.

3)  When I try to install firmware update, my printer is grayed out and I cannot select it.

4)  Embedded web services says firmware is up to date.

5)  HP Smart seems like it started working again, but keeps prompting me about the firmware.

I have worked this problem on and off for about a week.

I had a lot of issues with the printer control panel being locked with a password, but I finally was able to resolve

that with embedded web services.

I am confused over whether I have a HP Smart problem, a printer problem,  whether the firmware needs updating or not,

whether the locked control panel had anything to do with it, etc.

The printer and scanner work fine if I simply use HP Printer Assistant rather than HP Smart.

Any thoughts/suggestions on whether the firmware needs updating or not?

If yes, any ideas on how to install it so the printer isn't grayed out?

Any thoughts/suggestions on why HP Smart stopped working, and whether it is worthwhile to spend any time

trying to get it working again?

Thank you for your help,

Kim
