Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

My printer jumps from 'ready' to 'cancel' in under a second every time I press print. The printer did successfully print a one page document when I first set it up with my PC. The printer is an HP Laser Jet Pro M404dn. It had been sat unused for a year until I connected it. I loaded a new cartridge into the printer, and did the one successful one page printing a couple of days ago. Now I have the 'cancel' problem. 

I've tried switching off, unplugging etc. No change.

I'd be very grateful for any help. Ceri
