Hallo,

I have issues with my EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF. Sometimes it doenst wake up from standby and / or doesnt boot corretly.

I read here: ( https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c05306753 ) that using the latest Bios and an older ME FW can cause these kind of problems. Also, I like to have a newer ME FW for security reasons.

So, I am running BIOS 02.28 Rev.A and WIn 10 1709.

MEbx Version: 11.0.0.0005

ME Driver Version 11.7.0.1045

At https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitedesk-800-g2-small-form-factor-pc/7633277 there are two files that are supposed to contain ME FW Updates:

sp82476: Intel Corporate Management Engine (ME) Firmware Component 11.8.50.3425 Rev.A

Which contains the newest ME FW and is supposed to work unter x64 OS.

But I get this:

C:\SWSetup\SP82476\FW64>FWUpdLcl64.exe -f C:\SWSetup\SP82476\ME\ME_11.8_Corporate_D0_H_Production.bin

Intel (R) Firmware Update Utility Version: 11.8.50.3425
Copyright (C) 2007 - 2017, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Communication Mode: MEI
Checking firmware parameters...

Error 561: Get Platform Type failed.

Error 32: Unknown error code.

and there is:

sp80282: Intel Management Engine (ME) Firmware Update Tool for DOS or EFI 1.0.0.0 Rev.A

Which is much older and is suppoed to work only under efi shell.

I tried this one too:

BLK1:\efi\> FWUpdLcI.efi -f 110223001_h.bin

Communication Mode: MEI
Checking firmware pameters...

Error 8714: Firmware update not initiated due to file open or read failure

Is there a step by step guide on hor to install the correct and ne Intel ME FW on my computer?

I have a EliteDesk 800 G2 TWR

And I’m trying to upgrade the
firmware Intel Management Engine (ME) para DOS o EFI

but I’m being unable to boot from a DOS USB drive

I have try it the HP format tool to make a DOS USB drive; but my Pc doesn’t boot from there

(but my LapTop does boot using that USB drive)

Y If uses a Windows installation USB drive my PC does boot; but not the DOS USB Drive

I have try it Hp format tool and rufus-3.1

Would give me an advice?

I'm having the same issue with a ProBook 640 G1; same error message.

The USB stick is FAT32 formatting with the following folder structure:

├── efi
│   ├── 91413024.bin
│   ├── boot
│   │   ├── 91413024.bin
│   │   ├── bootx64.efi
│   │   └── FwUpdLcl.efi
│   └── FwUpdLcl.efi
├── error.log

Wasn't too sure where to put some of the files so I doubled them up.

When I try to flash the latest 9.1 ME firmware I get the following error:

"Error 8714: Firmware update not initiated due to file open or read failure"

I'm running Fedora 28 so using an EFI shell, but I did install Win10 to see If the flash would succeed under Windows, but it threw up an error message that closed to quickly to note; i believe it was something to do with the platform as I previous poster has reported.

to the linux poster,...... you can not do a ME firmware update under UEFI or under windows  cmd prompt

YOU MUST BOOT FROM A DOS BOOTABLE,   FAT 32 FORMATED USB KEY THAT IS UNDER 1GB IN SIZE

PLACE THE ME UPDATE FILES ONTO THE ROOT OF THE  KEY, BOOT FROM KEY THEN RUN UPDATER COMMAND

while some of the brand new hp systems do allow "me" updates from windows 10, older models require DOS

rule of thumb is if the system is older than 2 years......do update from dos

to windows poster,....... stop trying to apply random "ME" firmware updates!!! that's a sure way to brick  (kill) your computer

if you don't know which me update to apply say so. once you know which one read the included help files which cover HOW to DO UPDATE

OK, in other words, ignore instructions and files provided in updates.

Thanks DGroves - do flash drives smaller than 1GB even exist anymore?!

HP Recommended

small capacity flash drives are easely found on ebay and amazon

use this link to download the latest/correct me package for your model

the 800 g2  ME updater appears to run from a windows dos prompt,

for windows, the "me" driver package for your model must be installed first before trying to update firmware i don't know about linux update procedures, most of the HP models only have dos or windows updates only a very few hp systems have linux based updaters

from the sp80346 readme

Sorry to drag this one up from the depths, but I'm now running FWUpdLcl.exe via DOS and getting the following error:

Error 8746: Firmware update not initiated due to invalid image length

Deffo trying to flash the right bin file.

Any ideas?

HP Recommended

have you enabled the AMT in the BIOS, and installed the intel AMT software  this has to be done BEFORE you can attempt a AMT firmware update

a quick way to check fo the amt software is to look in device manager, do you see a COM 3 device? if not then AMT is most likely not installed

get the AMT package(s) from the HP 8200 driver page
