I have struggled with this setting using all these recommendations and none of them worked. I found out that the most recent firmware update doesn't save the changes. This was the firmware version that didn't work:
I resent my firmware version to:
And it worked. The actual version number on the phone had a D on the end of it. I decided to use this version by random. I happen to be reading instructions specifying the steps that should work and that was for version 5.7.1
Now, tomorrow, I'll find out of the phone actually use the headset properly. The problem with the first headset option is the phone would answer, then disconnect the headset and hang up the phone. Rather annoying when you're trying to answer calls. I'm using a Plantronics C054 with a Bluetooth headset. Prior to this setup, we were using this same headphone with the handset lifter, but when we got these new Polycom phones, we thought we'd take advantage of the USB connector and get rid of the handset lifter.

Hello @Bojjie ,
welcome to the Polycom Community.
The post you responded to is a couple of years old and dealt with a physical Headset cable plugged into the phone.
You are having issues with a Bluetooth Headset which will not use any of these settings.
Not knowing what kind of Polycom phone you are using and as you have not attached a backup for us to look at we can only ask you to work with your Polycom reseller and open a ticket.
To my personal knowledge I am unaware of any issues utilizing a currently supported software UC Software 5.9.1 with hanging up.
In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.
End Customers are unable to open a ticket directly with Polycom support.
If this is some sort of an Internet discounter providing your MAC address or your Polycom devices serial will enable us to look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Polycom device from.
If the unit is no longer within warranty please be prepared to Pay Per Incident / PPI. This is all outlined in detail here
Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.
Best Regards
Steffen Baier

I realize this was an old thread. My solution worked and that's why I posted it. The Polycom product is in the subject line. I've hit this answer several times and tried all the solutions. If you didn't know 5.9.1 was broke, it was on mine. The Polycom phone simply ignored the EHS headset settings and continued to do so until I downgraded the phone's software.
The Blue tooth headset communicates with the Plantronics model I mentioned already and that device is hooked into the USB on the phone and is one of the compatible handsfree devices used with that model.
The problem was, setting the EHS setting in the Polycom phone was ignored. After downgrading, the phone kept the settings.

Hello @Bojjie ,
I was not aware that you are using a VVX500 as you did not specify this in your reply. I was also not aware that you are in fact using a wired headset as you got the model number mixed up.
I am not that familiar with all the Plantronics headset range as of yet.
What you describe I am assuming is the same as => here <=
- Please download the DisableSerialPort.zip file
- Unzip the file so you end up with DisableSerialPort.cfg
- Import this via the Web Interface on your phone browsing to Utilities > Import & Export Configuration > Import Configuration and select the DisableSerialPort.cfg
If all of this fails and you still want to use UC Software 5.9.x please raise a ticket.

You can also stay on the working software that you found.
