Poly SoundStation IP, SoundPoint, Polycom Trio, VVX Business Media Phones, Poly Edge E, and VVX Business IP phones have the capability to store speed dials.
The below can easily be archived using a Poly Clariti Manager formally known as ResourceManager RPRM or Poly Lens >here< using this method >here<
NOTE: A PolyTrio in Skype for Business mode will not have the Local Contacts enabled. Please use this configuration to enable this if required:
<test feature.directory.enabled="1" />
Two template files are attached as feature_directory_enabledOn_or_Off.zip. One is to enable and one is to disable and can be imported via the Web Interface.
These Speed Dials can also be utilized to Display a Name instead of a Number for an incoming call as explained => here <= in the Incoming Call Identification section.
The above-linked post also explains how a phone can be pre-populated via a Provisioning server using the 0000000000
Disable Local Speed Dial Edits:
The modification of provisioned Speed Dials can be prevented by setting:
<web dir.local.readonly="1" />
Two template files are attached as dir.local.readonlyON_or_Off.zip. One is to enable and one is to disable and can be imported via the Web Interface.
Amount of Speed Dials per phone:
The Number of Speed Dials can be programmed depending on the different phone models.
Phone | Maximum File Size | Maximum Number of Contacts in File |
VVX 101, 150, 201 | Not available | 99 |
VVX 3xx series | 4MB | 500 |
VVX 4xx series | 4MB | 500 |
VVX 500/501 and 600/601 | 4MB | 500 |
VVX 1500 | 102400 bytes | 9999 |
Non-volatile: 100KB | ||
SoundStructure VoIP Interface | Not applicable |

Poly Trio 8500, 8800 or C60 | 4MB | 3000 |
Poly Trio 8300 | 4MB | 3000 |
Note: For an actual updated list always check the "Maximum Capacity of the Local Contact Directory" section within the Admin Guide matching your Software
Legacy Phones:
- SoundPoint IP 450, 550, 560, 650, 670 Maximum of 9999 (Note that the maximum is limited by the phone's available memory.)
- SPIP 321, 331, 335, and all SoundStation IP conference phones Maximum of 99
SoundStation IP and SoundPoint Phones (UC Software 4.0.0 or later):
VVX, CCX, Edge E and Trio phones do not support the above
Setting up a Speed Dial on a VVX Phone (example VVX600)
- Press the Menu Key and select the Directories
- Select Contact Directory
- Select the + Icon or Add Softkey
- Add at least either a First Name or Last Name and a Contact Number
- The Favorite Index decides if the Number is displayed on a free key on the main idle screen and the order of the Speed Dial Entry
(Not adding a Speed Dial Favorite Index will not display the Number on the Idle screen)
UC Software 5.3.0 or later changed the One Touch dialing via the Speed Dial and ending with # to 01 to 99 only - The newly added Speed Dial is shown in the Directory once saved
- The newly added Speed Dial is shown on the Phone Idle screen if a Favorite Index was used
Only the Polycom Trio can import speed dials via a USB stick in this format => here <= as shown => here <=
Manually Setting up a Speed Dial on a Polycom Trio 8800 or Trio 8500 is the same and follows the same principle as already shown for the VVX example:
Setting up a Speed Dial on a SoundStation / SoundPoint Phone (example SPIP650)
- Press the Menu Key and select the Features or press the Directories Key on the phone (depending on the model)
- Select Contact Directory
- Select the Add Softkey
- Add at least either a First Name or Last Name and a Contact Number.
The Favorite Index decides if the Number is displayed on a free key on the main idle screen and the order of the Speed Dial Entry
(Not adding a Speed Dial Favorite Index will not display the Number on the Idle screen) - The newly added Speed Dial is shown in the Directory once saved
- The newly added Speed Dial is shown on the Phone Idle screen if a Favorite Index was used

Old Telephony systems had the ability to simply dial a 1 or 2 digit code if the user remembered this as part of a speed dial.
Poly phones can do this via enabling a favourite index on a Speed Dial:
The above Speed Dial has an index of 1
Dialling on the phone 1# will display the Number:
Selecting the suggested value lets a user dial this.

Poly VVX Software 6.4.0 or later added the ability to add a specific Line for a Speed Dial contact
You can now add an Outgoing Line to a contact’s directory information to specify the line to use for the contact. This ensures that you use the correct line for calls to this contact.
Note: If you place a call using the outgoing line in this way, any call on the line currently on hold is terminated, as the placed call takes over the line.
