Info provided by Wildsoldier was a life saver! Thank you!
Couple tips for next person
- Link for BIOS utils here => https://www.ami.com/bios-uefi-utilities/
- HP old bios is F.55 Rev A for 8433 which is file sp141607.exe
- Can use USB or just root of your own C:\ or specific folder to copy all files too.
- Don't let Windows Update reinstall the problem BIOS! Once it all finished I had to reset my Windows PIN and once back in the OS I had a warning to reboot for firmware to complete... What it did then was re-install the problem firmware! I had to disable Windows Update option for including non Microsoft updates (found under advanced option and screen shot below). I then had to redo the instruction to down grade again.

@ Bporter001: thank You for the tips (although too late for me 😀).
Windows update really wanted to update the BIOS to faulty version F.57 again on next reboot after rollback!
I stopped the update before executing (there are 15 seconds left to stop), then back in the OS I had a warning to reboot for firmware update to complete - I did a reboot and stopped it again before executing, after the second cancellation there wasn't another try by Windows to update the BIOS so far. I didn't have to change my PIN. But I can only speak for my system.
Additionally I deactivate driver updates inside Windows Update in GroupPolicy (gpedit.msc - WinXPro) - in WinXHome You can do this in the registry. There are several instructions for that easy to find.
I promise: I will never let Windows do driver updates for my machine again!! Especially no BIOS/firmware updates!
The old/working BIOS depends on Your machine (look at HP support for the right BIOS of Your machine), for me it was F.54A, for others it's F.55A (look also at the right SSID, i.e. 8433) - the most important thing for me is that this solution really works even on different types.

I'm having this same issue. It's insane the HP still has not released a fix. I'll give this a try to see if I can revert back but the last month or so of this has been very annoying.
You guys are a Savior! I'm back on F.55. Hopefully no more issues!
Edit: Some how F.57 was installed on my computer again. I did not approve this and I have windows updates settings off. Any idea how or why?

I not happy with HP Support. I sent PC back requesting a system board to be replaced as since BIOS updated been locking up. They tested system stating hasn't frozen. They called me for more info and I explained how this has been happening since went to F.57. After a few days the HP Status Case says Graphics Card Part pending. For the last few years I had upgraded from the 2GB RX550 to the 4GB RX550 HP OEM card. I know that wasn't the problem. And after seeing graphics card on order I am upset they will downgrade me back to the 2GB card, losing the 4GB I been using for last couple years. I should have put the original card back in that is in another of my PCs and never thought.
When it gets sent back I will try it for a day and if still locks up I will go through the AFUWINDOS programming instructions posted earlier to force a reprogramming of the BIOS to the earlier version. All this costing me $350 and the loss of my 4GB card if they replace this with a 2GB.

Unbelievable!!
Not fair at all when it was tested multiple times and confirmed multiple times that is not the hardware is the Bios. Since I downgraded to F.55 I haven’t experienced a freeze. None. It has been more than a week since the downgrade. If I still had the F.57 it would had froze more than a 1000 times already.
Keep us updated about your issue.

oh I will my dear friend 🙂 I just got the earlier BIOS version F.54 on a USB stick with the AFUWINDOS64 program and printed the instructions for running the dos command to force a programming of the BIOS that were in the step by step instructions here to try as a backup. If I did lose the 4GB card and went back to a 2GB I am in process of building a system and already have a NVME drive, Memory, and a AMD Ryzen 7 CPU ready. Just need a case and system board. This is last time I spending money on the HP.

I called HP Smart Support requesting not replace card and cancelled the repair request. They advised will have service dept contact me to cancel video card replacement and to send PC back. Then the repair will issue refund. If they refuse replace system board this is best way for me to do this for time being. I have the BIOS program ready to go on a USB drive so when I get this system back I will go through the steps to program back earlier version. I am going back work truck driving Wednesday for 5-6 days will send update when I back home how this worked.

How do you stop Windows from trying to update back to F57 every time I reboot?
I've turned off autoupdates, I've disabled the firmware in device manager, I searched the BIOS settings to ensure it is off.
It's almost like the update is stored on my PC somewhere and it tries to reinstall it everytime I reboot.
Anyone else having this issue? How do I stop it from trying to reinstall it?
