Solved!

Very slow start-up after signing in (New HP Spectre x360 - windows 10)

Hello,

I have the exact same issue with my  4 day old HP Pavilion Power - 15-cb040nd.

It's a great machine but the first day i already had to do a complet HP recovery twice to get this solved.

After the recovery all woks fine and after the login, the screen turns on fast.

Then, without any known reason, after some time when i do a restart and login to Windows, the laptop takes longer at the welcome screen an then goes complete blank with a cursor for about 8 minutes.

The only thing that works is taskmanager trough Ctrl alt del.

After 8 minutes the screen turns on without any error messages.

I performed a chkdsk /f /f /x but no errors.

Did a system restore but the problem still exist.

Installed the latest Intel 630 graphic driver but still the same problem.

Checked the registry for Run or RunOnce but no strange loading of drivers or software there.

I updated the Bios to the latest version F10.

Right now i have this issue again and am doing the Recovery for the fourth time now so this is very annoying!!

The only thing i can do is to avoid restarting the laptop but after a windows update or after a sofware installation i don't have that choice and have to wait for 8 minutes after login.

Update1 : After a new install everything went fine for an hour and then the same problem again and now i notice that when i logoff and logon again, the 8 minute problem with blanc screen after login did not go away!

Update2 : I've created a local account to check if my microsoft account could be corrupt but also with the local account, the 8 minute blanc screen problem after login.

What could be the cause of this problem?

Thank you.

I am also having the same issue on 3 brnad new machines (less then 12 hours old)  as original poster. Its very irritating to tell my customers during a walk thru to wait 8-10 minutes to do a walk thru because my PC/tablet has to load.

Hello,

I resolved the problem with a temporary solution but it works!

At te moment you see the black screen, press ctrl+alt+delete and you get to the blue screen where you can select "taskmanager".

Once the taskmanager opens, at the processes tab, you have to scroll down to "service host: App Readiness" and select it.

Then right click and select "end task"

You will get to the desktop right away and everything works fine.

Then, go to Windows services (type "services" in the search box) and select the "App readiness" service > select properties> select startup type>  select disable! (do not select manual, automatic or automatic delayed because none of them will work)

After that your pc/laptop will boot fine and fast again.

!!!!!! But rememer to activate this service again when you have a Windows update that requires a reboot, otherwise the update wil not install!!!!

This is a temporary fix, so we have to wait what causes it and what Microsoft or HP does to resolve this problem!!

Hope this temporary solution will resolve your problem 😉

I have the same problem and believe it started after the 9/12 windows update.  I will apply the temp fix and really appreciate the forum!

OK That worked, thank you for the work around, Scrat1 gets props for digging in and catching this.

This is Day 1 for my HP Spectre, I was very reluctant to purchase an HP product again, I purchased a HP Envy about 3 years ago it was terrible, even with premium support.

I do not have time deal with crap like this, I could have purchased a Mac or iPad pro, Apple stubbornly does not put touch screens on their Macs and the iPad is nice it's just not a Laptop.

Could this have something to do with the BIOS update? It seems to be not working and errors out, sorry I did not screen shot the BIOS update disaster, if someone from HP is reading this I'd suggest you start there.

Hello tjacobsen,

In search of resolving this problem i came across these same issues since around 2013 on all kind of brands and models of laptops and pc's. I have a three year old i7 pc with "App Readiness" service set to manual and also the latest KB Windows updates without any problems loging in.

I also updated the bios to F10 without any errors but i can't recall if the problem started right after the bios update.

Before doing a HP-recovery the last time, i uninstalled all HP software from the laptop to check if one of these programs could be the cause of the problem but still the slow login.

So, i don't think it is a particular HP problem but a Microsoft KB Update that causes the login problem on some machines of different brands, maybe a signature or certificate issue with some brands of laptop/pc?

For now, my laptop works perfect again with the "App Readiness" service disabled and we have to be patient for the solution that hopefully will be provided in the near future!

I did follow your instructions and it now the things are back to normal.  Thanks again for your work in finding the issue.  Just hope HP and/or Microsoft provide the patch to really fix this.  HP should be getting many calls on this one.

I am having the same slow boot problem.  I too believe the 9/12 MS update caused it.

I may or may not try the temp solution.  HP or MS should fix this.  I have already had to rebuild the OS once and it cost me hours!  If I had it to da again I would not but this laptop.  HP products are definitely seconf rate.
