>  Autodownload keeps installing 1709 and successful . After that the system run slow ...

After 1709 is installed, if you have an Internet connection, Windows will download smaller updates - 1710, 1711, 1712, 1801, 1802 -- which will consume resources (network, disk, RAM, CPU) to download and to apply.

Immediately after installing 1709, disconnect from the Internet, and measure, measure, measure.

The values for disk/RAM/CPU should be very low. Of course, "network" will be zero.

> and when backing up the partition is bigger GB

That probably happens because 1709 created the 'C:\Windows.OLD' folder, to allow you to "roll-back" to the previous version, within the first 30 days after installing 1709.  Delete that folder (or wait 30 days for Windows to delete it), if you have no intention of doing a "roll-back".

Are you sure?

From:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/4093119

I see: April 10, 2018—KB4093119 (OS Build 14393.2189)

as an update to the '1607' branch in April, not August.

Windows 10 version 1607 will reach end of service on April 10, 2018.

Devices running Windows 10 Home or Pro editions will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats.

To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

As for my Lenovo tablet:

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (v. 1607) devices running the Intel “Clovertrail” chipset will continue to receive updates until January 2023

So, because that motherboard is NOT compatible with 1703 or 1709 or 1803,  it will be supported by ongoing updates to 1607 for several years.

---> I am happy for now 🙂 Boots up 42" and running so cool

_____________
I will come back to feed more info for HP board and for Users to learn as I am learning, Dell or Sony or else  still have the same problems, they all can not solve it and MS can not solve it, we have to find out ourselves and the MS the Dell the Lenovo the HP will dig it out from User's feed back like me

I like my HP 22-b022 , I also like the Refurbished Dell W7 Latitude E6420 and I bought this Dell because W10 makes me

crazy 🙂  1st time buy Dell, so far so OK

Feed Back:

My machine runs just fine but once in a while it pops up a small white window
with red round X saying

"Windows Backup" "This feature is not available in
a portable workstaton environment" "OK"

------> May be what I'd done in last a couple of days I make a copy internal HD to tnother
USB-HD and trying to test how to bootsup from the USB-HD and seems it boots fine

And one time it says Do not unplug te USB-HD and you have to shut down the
system before unplug or all works will be lost

So my question  mine is a desktop (HP 22-b022) and why it says "This feature is not available in
a portable workstaton environment"

Even I start the comp normally buy its own internal HD and the warning still exist

Somehow, you have enabled "Windows Backup", but your designated backup device (USB memory stick? External disk-drive?) is not available when this service activates.  Disable it, or connect an appropriate device.

I search and found -> https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/af05f60a-4cb0-4561-b49f-71938dad6853/my-co...

But like others I can not find  "PortableOperatingSystem" in HKEY

I think someone says its 1607 glitch and if update to 1709 that will clear out

I just want to keep 1607 and I download the 1607-ISO but when run it, it tells my machine is not for 1607 🙂

I goto Setting -? Connected Device and I see the External USB HD which I made a Clone Copy fron the internal HD so

I remove it but later that the popup with little window still shows

If I find more results or questions I will give another feedback

Thanks  Dean

1. Nor can I -- not all keys are present on all computers. So, I think that it is "good" that this key does not exist.

2. They could be correct.

3. Microsoft terminated all support for 1607 in April 2018.

Continuing to run an "unsupported" operating system, with its security-holes, is a risky action to take.

4. Your "clone" included the copying of the "unique-ID", to make it a "perfect" clone of the original.

Never connect that cloned drive to a computer that has the original disk-drive, except to repeat the "cloning" process.

----> I trust Norton or McAfee and other MalbytesWare to protect my system as they give me the warning but MS

The popup problem had been happened since W7 as I do the research
So if I update to 1709 then the 1803 will be forced to follow that I do not want and keep mine 1607 boots up fast running fast with my old windows Apps even from W-XP

@4. Your "clone" included the copying of the "unique-ID", to make it a "perfect" clone of the original.

Never connect that cloned drive to a computer that has the original disk-drive, except to repeat the "cloning" process.

----> I research and someoen with W7 or W8 telling they have the same problems
and suggest the windows read the ID of Cloned USB-HD so the IDs/record remains in the system so a few users reformat that Cloned USB-HD and seems the system also record that ID-USB-HD is now no more a CLoned/Windows bootable and the problem dissappear

If so, I may one day have to reformat that cloned USB-HD but no matter what 1603 or 1609, 1709 or even 1803 that will be a new problem to users, so I keep the Cloned USB-HD for a Backup for now

And keep my system this way for now, just a little anoying popup warning

I still have old 1603 backup image from the first day of my HP 22-b022 AIO plus back up from Paragon-15 but if I Restore it then I have to update all Drivers + Apps that is too much works so I skip it

----> I also goto Setting and search"startup " it prompts a few suggestions that leads to remove the USB-Cloned-HD and I try then it says something like Can not do it because system is running on the USB-HD ...you have to unplug the USB-HD first ...etc.... And lot of people out there also complain their system have no USB plugin but only the internal HD . So this glitch had been long years ago rather as I think only on the W10

So far this keeps I learn more and more as we all do the same and thank for all helps

PS: MS should not force users have to be in "automatic update" and must let the users pick the version they want that match their machine and their environments

It was worth a try. But, never believe everything you read on the Internet.

There are other faults in Windows that anti-virus software does not detect.

Consider a file (GIF or JPG or PDF or WMF) where a certain byte in the encoded file should be a number between 0 and 9.

If a computer-hacker puts a much-larger value into that byte, and sends the file to you,

your anti-virus software will not detect that "out-of-range" value.

That "bad" value could trigger an exploit of your Windows software.

After 1607 reached its "sunset" (April 2018), it is possible that Microsoft updated Windows to enforce that the value must be between 0 and 9.

Your copy of Windows is still exploitable, no matter what anti-virus software you think is protecting you.

> MS should not force users have to be in "automatic update" and must let the users pick the version they want that match their machine and their environments

There may have been a "philosophical" decision within Microsoft:

* users of Windows 10 Home always get updates, because "home" users are less computer-literate -- they just want Windows to update, and to provide a "safe" platform for their needs;

* users of Windows 10 Professional get the option to "block" or "defer" updates.

Have you tried connecting a brand-new disk-drive, along with a download of the 1803 version of Windows,

via: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

to install a "supported" version of Windows onto that brand-new disk-drive?

@It was worth a try. But, never believe everything you read on the Internet.

---> Not quite true, it depends on readers and the sources

@There are other faults in Windows that anti-virus software does not detect.

---> Quite true but I never seen WIndows promts me a warning about that file this file is a trojan or virus except the Norton or McAfee or MalwareBytes or etc.

---> The MalwareBytes đi show me the Hacker's IP # is attacking sometimes from
Brazil, Russia, Amsterdam etc but that was in the old Windows and all depend on
when I click to the unknown link source and the link source then catch my Mac Address to hack on mine for week but they failed (Ithink)

Sometimes to restore the system by using Windows itself Create a Point/Date in Systems Protection and the restore failed too . So I alway trust either Arconis or Norton Gosht or Paragon to backup a real good cleaned point to two external USB=HD and make a note in its Folders for remember

So if Hacjer crash my machine then I rely on those BackUps like I đi and I am doing few days ago

---> Quite true, but even upto 1709 or 1830 the MS can not help its Version to be good because out there many many of users are complaining

If I will buy a new computer with powerful CPU + Graphic as a latest gear, sure I will want the 1803 in it not 1607

---> I never try brand new HD but I also only belive in 50% of Version to be downloaded and then run Installation and it can be failed 50/50

Why ? Because each machine has its own hardware and environment those can not be guarranteed for succesfull instalation

Like I said I downloaw the 1607 ISO a week ago and istall it on my machine but it says Not for this machine, and while mine is running with 1607 at present

If I goto Frys and buy a W10 OEM then sure I belive it will work on new barebone hardware but may failed on this mdae specifically for HP 22-b022 AIO hardware

I will down load the 1803 and save it, thats all I can đo for now but if I have a chance in the future I will do like you wrote, why not

Thanks
