I did not find any entries in Autoruns that had HP One Agent in their description. I did a online search of all the HP entries I found and deactivated all those that did not have anything to do with the operation of my HP computer. Two days out and no adverse effects. The HPOneAgent installer application is still present in the Driver Store but it seems nothing at the moment is calling it.

I also found the Windows program that allows another user to work on my computer and removed it. That can be reinstalled if ever I need another Microsoft agent's help.

Thanks for all your help with this issue.

Well there was an update from Microsoft updates today and it was labeled HP software update so I installed it and then UN-installed HP One Agent again  and re-booted and unfortunately HP One Agent reinstalled itself again - so back to square one. **bleep**!

Hi Codger65 --

I posted this solution to the constant HP One Agent reconfigurations a couple of days ago on another HP help forum.  It definitely worked, and you don't have to uninstall anything:

In addition to disabling HP One Agent's auto startup in the Windows Task Manager, call up the Windows Task Scheduler, (to find it, enter Task Scheduler in the Windows search box)  then click on  Libraries (left side of the screen). You should see a task called "HpOneAgentRepairTask". Click on that to highlight it, then right click it, and then click on "Disable" from the drop down list.  Close out Task Scheduler and re-boot your computer.  When you next check Windows Reliability History, it should not be listed.

I learned about this from another post -- https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions/What-exactly-is-quot-HP-One-Agen...

Hope this helps.

@Ortho_fan, since you have decided to (and figured out how to) disable hp one agent, I'm figuring you also know what it does. Can you explain it, in some detail, so I can decide whether to keep it or not? My chat with an HP employee was not very informative on this subject.

Thanks.

I just posted something about this here:

Again, if I find anything more out about it I'll do a follow-on post.

Hi! I have used HP Cloud Recovery Tool to factory reset my laptop 03 days ago, got all updates from Microsoft and HP and i was very lucky.HP One Agent is not in the system but i keep on checking every time i turn on or restart my laptop, I have noticed tough after the factory reset, when i open the C (windows) there are only 05 folders now instead of 08 folders(mostly HP named folders). Hopefully is not coming back because this HPOA was driving me mad and this was the last time i ever bought an HP Computer. Gonna sell it and get and Acer Nitro. Thanks guys

Unfortunately, I once again found HP One Agent loaded on my computer yesterday. When I looked at Autorun I found that all the HP items I had unchecked were again checked. I unchecked them again. I went into services and found that although I had disabled all the HP services, I had left them running. I stopped all of them.  This then is the summary of all my actions:

*In Services I have disable and stopped all items with HP in the name.

*In Task Scheduler I have disabled all items with HP in the name.

*In Autorun I have unchecked all items with HP or Hewlett Packard in the name. (I looked for anything in the Publisher column that showed the item had been verified by HP or Hewlett Packard.)

I will post again after a week to see if this keeps the One Agent away.

In Autoruns (admin mode), do not uncheck the lines with HP One Agent, but delete them (right click). I have too temporarily stopped Windows Updates since thy reinstall it.
