windows 11 offered me a bios update, which I regret doing now. it upgraded to f.57 (it was on f.55) I need to downgrade my bios back to f.55, since I have upgraded the bios it freezes and locks up and I have to hard shut down with the power button, every time I try with the recovery tool it doesn't rollback, It said my tool was out of date so I downloaded a update for the recovery tool on the site and now I no longer have the rollback option (not that it worked anyway). I made a recovery usb and it says something about no signature or something and doesn't install. Not liking the thought of shutting down my PC this way daily, any ideas?

Hi

Is your PC in warranty? I would contact HP Support https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact/help/desktop using your specific product number for possible warranty service. You might be charged to repair the PC.

HP usually prevents BIOS rollbacks on consumer PCs.

Out of warranty? Try a local PC tech who can reprogram the BIOS using an older BIOS version. The tech might be able to get this done using the .BIN file and a BIOS serial programmer.

Hi Bill_To,

Yes, my PC is out of warranty.  But I have found some ways to make living with the issue tolerable.  I'm also thinking support for Windows 10 will be ending in the not-too-distant future and I will be forced to upgrade.  I'm hopeful that Windows 12 may come out near that time and I can just skip over 11.

Nevertheless, thanks for your suggestion.

Other people on this forum are also describing the same issue with this BIOS where you can't shut down properly. I upgraded from F.41 to F.57, in my case the PC only freezes on the shut down/restart screen and the spinning circle stops and maybe 10% of the time when I'm on the login screen, but some people have said it happens in random situations too. The only time it doesn't do that, at least for me, is if I'm in safe mode.

Just have to wait for a BIOS update to fix it or if there's some way to rollback the BIOS, similar to you, I also can't rollback because it's unable to open the signature file.

CROSS POST

I did contact support a few days ago. It was definitely a cold handoff to support because the team has no idea what is happening, or will not acknowledge it. Despite this clearly being an error caused by HP, they will not provide any support outside of paying for technical support. My PC is out of warranty, but I have trouble with this concept of paying for help on an issue that HP created. No components of the PC are broken or require repair/replacement due to use or age. It's simply been fed a faulty HP bios which is causing the PC to hard freeze multiple times a day. Is there another avenue for help? Otherwise I have a computer that I cannot use. I've always felt good about the HP brand and have had a long history with its products. Disappointing.

I replied to my DM from support with the following.

This seems to be a very widespread issue impacting enterprise, commercial, and personal users. This issue must be impacting hundreds if not thousands of customers' machines. At this point I would ask you to please escalate this issue that must be impacting hundreds if not thousands of customers' machines. There are already 6 threads that I could find in the community speaking to this exact issue. I'm sure that there are considerably more posts from less technical customers/users. Not to mention the customers in the wild that have no idea what is happening or think to check HP's community forum for help.

Here are the 6 so far:
