( Seems there's a problem with Windows 8.1. )

Yes this worked for me too...,but now after it reset it gave me a message that it doesn't know my password or I'm not able to get access...what next?

Hi I have an HP pavilion 23, locked up the other day so I just powered off by pressing on/off button. Now all I get is a black screen after turning on and putting in password . Cursor can be seen and can move it around I tried the suggestions above but didn't work. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks so much!

You must press Control+F11 at the same time. If you press only F11 it will not work. When the F11 is raised on the key it means you either must press the Control+F11 or Shift+F11...anyway...it will take pressing two keys, not just one.

When I try to refresh PC as you mentikned, I get the drive where windows is installed is locked. What should I do?

Thank you very much for this information. System Refresh, albeit taking next to forever to accomplish, fixed this same problem everyone else was having. Saved me the expense of taking it to a computer repair place!
