I have HP VGA webcam RD346AA and I can't get it to work.

I've got this camera working on a Windows 7 Laptop after installing the first driver from HP.
I just can't get it work on Windows 8. It's a shame for Microsoft that such basic H/W doesn't work. I was expecting out of box support for older H/W.

Operating System: Windows 8

Note: The microphone built into the camera works. It’s just the webcam that doesn’t work.

Note 2: Let me remind you that this camera works perfectly well on another computer that runs Windows 7.

I understand you are trying to use your stand alone webcam in Windows 8.

What happens if you install the Vista driver in compatibility mode?

This post is for using Windows 7 drivers, but it can be applied to Vista drivers as well.
Do note that the older the driver, the less likely this process is to work but it is worth trying.

Let me know what happens.

I tried installing the said driver in compatiblity mode.

The downloaded driver file doesn't create a folder in C:\swsetup\ folder. So, i tried compatiblity mode on the downloaded file itself.

The driver installs normally but my camera doesn't work. The driver has simply no effect.

Provided the device is functional, which I suspect it is, there should be a device in an other/unknown category in device manager.

Press Windows Key + X to access the device manager.  Right-click the webcam (may be labeled as unknown), select properties, select the details tab, and change the property to hardware IDs.  What are the hardware IDs listed?

I have upgraded my system from XP to windows 7. Since I have upgraded I am not able to use my webcam ( HP RD346AA 5Megapixel). I have applied the sp35040 as per this forum. But this is not working at all. When ever I am connecting my cam system is showing No Driver Found. Please suggest me how to resolve the issue. Thanks in Advance.

Hi Mario, Thanks for your reply. But I have a USB webcam. so do you think YouCam software will help?

HP Recommended

YouCam software should have the ability to pick up any webcam hardware, including USB ones, unless it is defective. I searched the document and it does contain information on your question.

Thank you for the clarification. I did not know we were troubleshooting this on a Lenovo computer. I am going to reference one more source that could assist the webcam itself, which you will find below. If this fails to resolve the issue, you would need to contact Lenovo, as all of our Webcam troubleshooting has been done. Let me know if you have any more questions.
