Pavilion 23xi
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

i have my Pavilion 23xi for two years now and up until a few weeks ago i was satisfied.

But lately the desktop turns black after about 30 minutes in use. The power symbol is lid but the power button is not usable. Pressing it will neither turn on/off the desktop nor the power symbol. So far the only option i figured out is to replug the power cable. After replugging the desktop will turn on again. However the timespan between those blackouts gets smaller and i figure the frequent replugging isn't healthy for the desktop either.

It started with one blackout per day which was no big problem, but now the problem occurs much more frequently. Even while writing this report it appeared 8 times.

I checked the graphicscard driver and the cables with another desktop without problems. Also my father had the same problem with this desktop at his pc. I ran the software delivered with the desktop, but the problem still occurs.

Now i am pretty sure the desktop is broken. I think it might be overheating since the silver bar at the bottom gets quite warm. The back of the monitor remains cool, though. Is this problem known? Or rather, is their something i can do? Or do i have to get a new monitor?

Thank you for any help,

Polysept

HI,

I am also having exactly the same issue wioth my screen.

When the monitor is connected using HDMI cable, the only way to recover is to disconnect both HDMI and power cables. When connected using VGA cable, disconnecting power cable is enough.

In both cases the power button does not work. When the screen goes blank, power light keeps illuminated.

Restoring the monitor to factory settings has no effect.

Is the problem hardware or monitor firmware? I have tested the problem using three different computers all having the same problem.

I am experiencing the same problem. After browsing this forum, It seems to be a common problem for those 23xi monitors. Is there a exchange program for those monitors?

I am also having the exact same issue.  Worked fine for about two years.  Now I have to reset the power on it about 5-6 times a day.  This has to be a known issue that I doubt HP will acknowledge, given the horrible answer on this thread and lack of any other replies.

I am having exactly the same issue. It is not right that a product expires on us like this. I am still trying to find a solution. I is there one here? Anywhere? Please help. Please HP

And now you go silent on us all HP? Is there no solution? Bad company policy to ignore and issue like this. Do we really have to go and buy new screens? Infuriating

I contacted HP support. Answer: The wanranty is 1 year so they will not repair it under waranty! I replyed that this is a common defect looking at the number of people reporting this problem, and I asked them to reconsider their position. Answer:  No, I should consider buying a new monitor. What a joke! I'll never buy an HP monitor again!

Since HP is not willing to make any effort, I opened my monitor, hoping that the problem is only due to a bad capacitor.

No luck, after changing all capacitors, the is problem still there.

All Monitors include an electronic security system that checks if the monitor is not dragging too much current. So I guess the culpit Is either the MOS transistor that switches the monitor ON/OFF, or is somewhere in the associated components.

So far I have no fix, but I'll post the procedure if I succeed repairing it.
