Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)

Hello,

I am facing an issue with my HP Victus laptop battery. The battery percentage often gets stuck at a certain level for a long time (for example, stays at 60%) and then suddenly the laptop powers off unexpectedly. After that, the battery charges very quickly from about 10% to 100% within a short time.

Additionally, I noticed that the full charge capacity recently dropped from around 45 Whr to 20 Whr, which seems unusual.

Could you please advise what further steps I can take to diagnose and fix this problem? Is this a software or firmware issue that can be resolved, or should I consider replacing the battery?

Thank you for your help!

Hi @velan57,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Check Battery Condition and Status

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) to check the battery condition. This tool can help you verify the health status of your battery and identify any faults.

  • Ensure the battery is properly seated in the battery bay and the latch locks are tight.
  • Validate that the battery is installed properly without a gap or obstructions.
  • Determine if the battery gets excessively hot (note that warming up while charging is normal, but it should not get too hot to touch).

2. Verify Power Settings

Ensure that your power settings are optimized:

  • Resetting default to Power Saver option can conserve battery power.
  • Check Control Panel > Power Options to confirm that power plans aren't consuming excessive energy.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

Resetting your laptop can help restore functionality and may resolve software-related battery issues.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Unplug the AC adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and the AC adapter, then turn on the laptop.

4. Update BIOS and Drivers

Updating BIOS and drivers can resolve many hardware issues. Ensure you have the latest updates installed.

5. Test and Calibrate Battery

Using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, test and calibrate your battery:

  • Perform a battery test to confirm if the issue is hardware-related.
  • Compare discharge time with a verified working battery.
  • Calibrate the battery using the diagnostic tool to optimize its performance.

I hope this helps.
