I recently encountered a serious issue with my laptop. It suddenly displayed a blue screen and now fails to function properly when I try to turn it on. I reached out to HP for assistance (Case ID: [Personal Information Removed]), but they were unable to resolve the issue virtually.

I have approximately 250 GB of important data stored on the laptop, and they informed me that the problem cannot be resolved. This is extremely urgent as I have critical work for mon and with strict deadlines. I kindly request immediate assistance to resolve this issue and recover my data. Thank you.

Hi @Salwyn

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on your HP Victus 15-fa0000 Gaming Laptop (680A4AV) can occur due to a variety of issues, such as hardware conflicts, corrupted system files, or outdated drivers. Here’s a detailed guide on how to troubleshoot and resolve the BSOD issue.

Step 1: Identify the Error Code

When your laptop shows the BSOD, it will usually display an error code. This code can help identify the specific issue causing the crash. Look for an error like 0x0000007E, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, or others.

If you can see an error code on the screen, note it down. If not, continue troubleshooting with the steps below.

Step 2: Boot into Safe Mode

Sometimes, BSODs occur because of recently installed drivers or software. To troubleshoot, you can boot your laptop into Safe Mode:

  1. Force restart your laptop three times to trigger the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  2. Once in WinRE, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
  3. Click Restart, then press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, Windows will load with minimal drivers, which may allow you to identify and fix the issue.

Step 3: Update Drivers

Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause BSODs. To update your drivers:

  1. Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
  2. Check for any devices with a yellow triangle (indicating a problem) and update their drivers.
  3. Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Go to Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click the NVIDIA or AMD driver (whichever is on your system) > Update driver.
    • You can also download the latest graphics drivers from NVIDIA or AMD's official website.
  4. Update Network Drivers:
    • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters > right-click the network adapter > Update driver.

Step 4: Check for Windows Updates

Ensure that your system is fully updated, as Microsoft may have released a patch for known BSOD issues:

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

Step 5: Check for Hardware Issues

Sometimes, BSODs are caused by faulty hardware, such as RAM, storage, or overheating issues.

Test RAM:

  1. Press Windows + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter.
  2. Select Restart now and check for problems.
  3. The Windows Memory Diagnostic tool will run, checking for memory errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
