OMEN 15-dh0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have come across this issue for sometime and unable to find any fix. The computer would be running normally but sometimes after the display goes off (for instance my setting is after 2 minutes of inactivity or when i open lid after sleep on low battery), it does not display again. The screen is completely turned off, no light all black screen. The computer becomes unresponsive. How? All other functions seem to work as the keyboard lights can be turned on/off.

Problem exsisting in Windows 1909 so updated to 2004 but still not resolved. What should i do???

It does not sound broken, though it may need your attention.

The first things that come to mind is that you adjust your power settings to not use so much of the resource and / or you replace the battery and / or you don't let the battery drain so low that the computer doesn't work.

Some of the considerations include...

======================================================

First and foremost:

Updates for both Windows and HP Software and Drivers should be current

This might be a bit tougher to accomplish than before you migrated to Windows 2004, of course - your HP software and drivers to not (yet) support this latest Windows version.

In general, since the Windows 2004 upgrade was successful, things will be "OK", at least on the surface.

======================================================

One example of the many power settings that affect your battery use

Windows key > Settings > System > Power

Additional Power Settings

Next to your plan: Change Plan Settings >

Change advanced power settings >

Scroll down, open Processor power management >

Adjust settings in each sub-category for both On battery and Plugged in >

OK

======================================================

Reduce the number of icons on your home screen, remove any fancy backgrounds and opt for a plain background.  Switch off any animations, reduce the number of activity icons in your Taskbar.

======================================================

Replace a weak battery

For example, if the battery is over a year old and it is not performing the way you expect - if changing the settings and other measures do not help, replace the battery.

I have tried all the things that you have suggested and also the battery is non-removable ( and just 4 months old ). Also i want to make it clear that when i said on low battery this issue comes I meant that the battery power is in range 50-35% ( mostly just below 50% ). Also please suggest more things so that this issue can be resolved. And if any more clarifications are needed please ask as I dont know what all should I tell.

If you believe the battery to be healthy (UEFI  Hardware Test for battery to confirm),

If you believe the issue is related to the power levels,

another place to look is in the Power Settings.

If you have not done so, consider a complete a check of all your power settings.

Control Panel > icon view > Power Options

Change plan settings (next to your selected power plan)

Change advanced power settings

Power Options Advanced Settings menu opens

Each of the power settings lets you adjust the time and other types of options.

For example, especially if you run on battery, never use a slide-show background - in fact, opt for a plain dark background on your desktop.  Pretty background is eating up your resource (battery power) and drains the battery more quickly.

Check each and every setting - adjust for the type of performance or battery usage you want.

Click Apply to save changes

Click OK to save / exit the menu

What are the settings?  What do they mean?

There are articles all over the Internet on how to change, what is "best" (according to the author), and what each setting means (most are self-explanatory).   Use your search engine to find an article that explains the settings in a way you can understand.

If you have not done so, it is time to make sure your Windows 10 and HP software and drivers are current.

Windows 10 Updates, of course, are important.

If you have migrated the computer to Windows 10 2004, it is important that your computer be running the updated HP drivers rated for this version of the Operating System.

Found this in your computer's category Advisories

It is related to the graphics driver, and includes how to update.

What about those Updates?

Software and drivers for OMEN by HP 15-dh0000 Laptop PC series

There are several drivers, for example, dated in July 2020.

For Example:

Read, too, the description and information for the BIOS.  If you have not already done so, consider updating the BIOS.

Reminders

  • BIOS should be updated only when the system is connected to AC Power
  • BIOS should be updated by itself, that is, not in a pile of other updates.
  • BIOS is best updated manually, that is, download-save-install as opposed to updating it using the HP Support Assistant.
  • BIOS is best updated only after you have made sure all your most critical files and folders are backed up to other than the local machine.  Do this.  Why?  If the computer becomes unavailable for use, it might be too late to backtrack.

No Joy?

Don't want to do any of it?

Tried "everything" and nothing works?

If the battery in this computer is only four months old,

If the battery has never been replaced,

four month old computer is still in Warranty.
