I have searched the forums but wasn't able to find this exact problems but many similar so I'm hoping you can help as this community seems pretty helpful.
I bought a HP ENVY 7640 printer around Christmas time. I have it set up and connected to my wireless network. It prints from file, prints when I send a document to the printer's email address, scans, copies, etc.
However I am not able to print to the printer from my laptop if the laptop is not connected via USB cable.
The printer shows up in my list of devices, and it is identified as a HP ENVY, however it says that the driver is unavailable.
When I go to device manager, it shows up as Unknown Device.
When I try to install the driver from device manager, it locates a driver, but then encounters an error when attempting to install it.
I'm really not sure what else to do. I bought this printer so I could print wirelessly and it seems like I am stuck right now with wired printing.
Has anyone seen something like this before?
I have an hp laptop
two other people in the house have different machines
all three machines are running windows 10
the different machines could not print to the wireless 7640 envy printer so I decided to give it a try on my laptop
after installing the 7640 envy drivers on my laptop I too could not print to the printer. I decided to try printing something again and suddenly it worked for me. I was puzzled why. When I researched on my computer for the settings on the printer I saw that it did not indicate the 7640 envy printer but instead showed an HP ePrint+Jetadvantage printer. ?? I thought. So I researched the drivers for that machine and found that it indeed had drivers for windows 10. When I researched the drivers for the 7640 envy it indicated 8+. What I think my HP laptop did was to put in the drivers for the 7640 envy along with the drivers for HP ePrint+JetAdvantage.
I then went into the two other none HP laptop machines and downloaded and installed the HP ePrint+ JetAdvantage drivers for windows 10.
Low and behold! Now all three machines can print to the 7640 envy! I have no explaintion why but it works!
What I think happened in the first place is that the drivers for the envy are not up to date for windows 10
Hope this helps you out.
_Just add the HP ePrint+JetAdvange drivers and you should be good to go_

I am frustrated since I have to send documents to my daughter so she can print them for me since I cant do it in this printer. Does anybody have the same problem with ths particular printer?
