DeskJet 2710e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought the DeskJet 2710e printer three months ago, and I'm still in trial phase (6 Month), that is, I'm new to Instant Ink.

Black ink has run out, but color ink is not yet.

But I only have 1 return envelope.

What should I do?

The printer does not want to print without black ink.

Do I have to order black ink separately, or will this order happen automatically, or order both black and color together?

Do I need to ship just one black cartridge now (1), or both at once (2), or insert the black cartridge from the original kit that came with the printer and continue printing until the color cartridge is complete too  (and order black and color cartridges together) (3) ?

In the first case, I need to order another envelope, it doesn't seem right to me.  I believe the third case is best.

Postscriptum:  Now, when printing a black-and-white copy, a blank sheet comes out. When checking information about the printer, normal text comes out. What can be wrong?

Can I now replace the black ink cartridge with the one supplied with the printer?

P.P.S.:  Now I have ordered either a recyclable return envelope or a complete set of cartridges?

P.P.P.S.: Clicking on the link "HP Instant Ink-Patrone eingesetzt(HP Instant Ink cartridge installed)" followed by the text "Sehr wenig Tinte. Es wird ein Austausch empfohlen.(Very little ink. An exchange is recommended.)" , a window appears with the text "Eine HP Instant Ink Druckerpatrone / -kartusche ist installiert. Wir senden Ihnen rechtzeitig eine neue HP Instant Ink Druckerpatrone / -kartusche zu, sobald Ihr Drucker uns mitteilt, dass Sie wieder Tinte benötigen.(An HP Instant Ink printer cartridge is installed. We will send you a new HP Instant Ink cartridge in good time as soon as your printer tells us that you need more ink.)" That is, while the order is not in progress? Why?

Next Day: I installed another black cartridge, and now the item "HP Instant Ink-Patrone eingesetzt(HP Instant Ink cartridge installed)" shows "Ihr Vorrat an Tinte ist ausreichend. Kein Austausch erforderlich.(Your ink supply is sufficient. No replacement required.)", and by clicking  "Eine HP Instant Ink Druckerpatrone/-kartusche ist installiert. Wir senden Ihnen rechtzeitig eine neue HP Instant Ink Druckerpatrone/-kartusche zu, sobald Ihr Drucker uns mitteilt, dass Sie wieder Tinte benötigen.(An HP Instant Ink printer cartridge is installed. We will send you a new HP Instant Ink cartridge in good time as soon as your printer tells us that you need more ink.) ". That is, it means that an order for new cartridges is no longer required. And what about the order already made? I received a message in the mail that it was an envelope only. And how do I place an order for cartridges?

@DimaL1, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand the black ink cartridge is out of ink. You need not place an order for a replacement. Instant Ink server will send you a replacement automatically.

Also, about returning the used /empty Instant Ink cartridges, 1 return envelope can hold 3-4 cartridges. Accumulate them and then send

To assist you better, I would need some information related to your Instant Ink Subscription. This information cannot be shared on a public post.

I have sent you a private message, reply to the message with your details.

Hi. You wrote that "Instant Ink server will send you a replacement automatically." Unfortunately, this is not true.

I started out with the original cartridges that came with the printer. Only later, after registration, I received a set of "Instant Ink" cartridges, and left them for safekeeping.

At the end of the third month, I received the message "Sehr wenig Tinte. Es wird ein Austausch empfohlen. (Very little ink. An exchange is recommended.)". I often make BW copies of papers. Therefore, the black ink ran out quickly. Strange, but color ink was also consumed, although I rarely made color copies. Making another copy, I received a message on the printer screen about the black cartridge exhaustion. I had to turn the printer off and on, after which I was able to print a BW copy once. Unfortunately, at this moment I did not try to go into "HP Smart" and check the status of the printer there.

The next day, I could no longer print anything, because when I pressed the black-and-white copy button, I received a blank sheet, and it was counted in the printer's statistics as printed. At the same time, I calmly received information about the state of the printer, that is, the black ink itself was there. But I did not manage to get a message about the complete exhaustion of the cartridge, because in the item "Status Tinte. HP Instant Ink-Patrone eingesetzt (HP Instant Ink cartridge installed)" I continued to receive the message "Sehr wenig Tinte. Es wird ein Austausch empfohlen. (Very little ink. An exchange is recommended.) ".

I had to replace the BW cartridge with the one that came with the Instant Ink kit. Then I received the message "Ihr Vorrat an Tinte ist ausreichend. Kein Austausch erforderlich. (Your ink supply is sufficient. No replacement required.)", That is, I was unable to order a new set of cartridges or even a new black cartridge!  😯😠

Yesterday I had to replace the color cartridge as well, because it also said "Sehr wenig Tinte. Es wird ein Austausch empfohlen. (Very little ink. An exchange is recommended.)". The message then changed to "Ihr Vorrat an Tinte ist ausreichend. Kein Austausch erforderlich. (Your ink supply is sufficient. No replacement required.)"

I wonder why this does not automatically order new cartridges? Taking into account the delivery time (1-2 weeks), this would be enough for printing without interruptions. I would not like to find myself in a similar situation again.

I also found the message https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Knowledge-Base/Cartridge-cannot-be-used-until-printer-is-enro... There was a message in the comments "You can't use HP Instant Ink cartridges after you cancel your service. Why? Because Instant Ink is an alternate way to print, where you pay for the pages you print, not for ink cartridges. Just as with a cell phone plan you can only make calls as long as you are enrolled with your cell provider, you can only print with Instant Ink cartridges while you are enrolled in an Instant Ink plan. If you cancel, you must buy regular ink cartridges to resume printing. "

If possible, order a pair of black and color cartridges for me. If not, I will have to cancel Instant Ink one week before the end of the free trial period. I will send the requested data in response to your private message.

P.S.  I have not found any trace of the envelope request I sent. Not in "Delivery Tracking", not in "Activity Planning", not in the mail, although almost 2 weeks have already passed. Ok, I will send both cartridges in the same package when I complete the enrollment.
