Welcome to the HP Community --

Yes, a rash of issues of this type have been reported recently.

Our HP Community Admin team just released a new TKB article to address the problem and provide a solution.

If other options fail, perhaps contact Instant Ink Support directly.

TKB - Troubleshooting "Cannot Connect to Web Services" Error with HP Instant Ink

-- Reminders --

  • "Connected to the Internet" is not the same thing as connected to your home network.
  • Web Services is used to connect the printer to the Internet.
  • Web Services recognizes the printer and hands it to whatever service is "next".

For example, Web Services might be used to connect your printer to ePrint, Instant Ink, HP+, Print Anywhere, or certain Cloud services.

If you have not done so, consider assigning the printer a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can help stabilize the connection.

I have had my printer for years, nothing has changed, then all of a sudden today I'm getting a message telling me if I don't connect to Instant Ink, printing will be blocked!!!  I have spent the past 4 hours trying everything to resolve this problem. When I go online or the HP app and look at my account, there are multiple places that confirm I'm connected.  However, in my Print History it shows that the last time anything was printed was on March 26, and I know that's not correct. One of the times I had the printer turned off earlier today I took the opportunity to change an ink cartridge that was very low because I thought that might be causing a problem. Online it recognized the new cartridge almost immediately. The AI assistant offers no solutions that work for me, and it seems like getting anyone on the phone will be not a possibility until Monday (it's Saturday afternoon right now). I will be so upset if printing gets blocked because of this. I hope you get your issue resolved quickly!

Think this issue might be related to the problem that has suddenly appeared. After years of smooth operation my printer will not connect to the HP Instant Ink servers.  I have carried out all the recommended work arounds several times, unsuccessfully.  In addition when using the HP Smart app my printer does not appear under the Account Dashboard or Printers heading but it does appear under the HP Instant Ink/Overview heading but says "unable to connect to the printer"

PS...last synced on 20th March.

I have reported this issue elsewhere on other HP support sites without any response but it seems others have the same problem.

I keep getting that Web Services/Instant Ink status message, Cannot Print. Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status.

My system  has been working fine until recently with no changes at my end but suddenly I have this problem.

There have been suggestions how to work around it but none have been successful.  Ive performed a factory reset and a DNS change but Web Services still refuses to connect to HP Instant Ink.

My only conclusion is that HP have changed some firmware/software to cause this issue.

Incidentally HP Smart shows I have an account but my printer does not show up on the Dashboard.

Can anyone suggest my next move?  TIA

@ItsmeBeverley

I've moved your new post over to the original thread of the same subject.

I'm sorry it's not working and nothing has helped.

The TKB article I posted earlier is the solution provided to us by HP.

Thanks for responding to itsmebeverly about this issue. I have had exactly the same problem with my ENVY 5644 since 4 April.
it has just been resolved - I’ve no idea how! Hopefully Beverly’s is sorted too.

Thanks Redpaulo but its still an issue for me.   Have yet again gone thru the suggested work around without success.  Reset and stopped and restarted Web Services but no luck yet. I dont print large volumes but haven't had a connection since 20th March but only discovered this problem a couple of days ago.  Something has obviously changed but it certainly wasn't at my end.

Thank you for your help with this.  What is so frustrating is that nothing has changed at my end.  One day it works, the next day it doesn't. I'm running short of ink so need a connection quickly.

I can feel your frustration! I felt along that it was HP’s servers at fault. Hopefully you can get this resolved asap. Good luck. Redpaolo
