I am having the same problem 'error message remove & reinstall' which I have done. I have been trying for DAYS going round in circles with virtual assistance and getting nowhere at all. My black ink is either empty or faulty. When I go onto my account with HP it says I am OK with ink, clearly I am NOT and I need a new black ink cartridge sent to me asap but I am unable to contact a 'person' to order one. I'm at my wits end.

What model printer are you using?
Are you using the Instant Ink cartridges in the printer?
Is the color ink cartridge working fine?
Keep me posted.

I am having a similar issue: my color cartridge is faulty. I have the HP DeskJet 3720.
I followed guides and instructions on the FAQ many times for fixing the problem but it didn’t helped.
The color cartridge is recognized as faulty: the ink level indicator is blinking twice as fast as when the cartridge is missing.
I’m having this issue since 5 or 6 months.

Out of the blue. Put in brand-new cartridges; still nothing.
HP used to have great tech support. I've wasted an hour running around in circles on this site.
If you have a solution, please tell me. I've already wasted something like $40 on unnecessary cartridge replacements.

@Sandy372, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

I have the same problem with my black cartridge, error message asking to reinstall, which I have, and still same error message. The cartridge has been working fine for weeks and not changed. Took out, cleaned it, put it back x 5 with no improvement. Unplugged and replugged. I cannot find anywhere on the HP site as an instant ink subscriber where you can report this and get a replacement. The virtual assistant is useless. I waited 23 mins and then was kicked off to upgrade service and told to try again in 1-2 hours. I cannot even find a telephone number on site to speak to a real person. I really don't print much anymore so I should probably just cancel my subscription. How do I do that????

I am having the same problem as many of these users. I've tried the advised troubleshooting and the same "cartridge error" message is displayed.
I was sent a replacement black ink cartridge at the end of the 2020 school year, but the one that was in there wasn't out of ink yet. I wasn't printing anything for months. Now that the printer has told me to change the cartridge, it doesn't recognize the new one. Is there a time limit on these instant ink cartridges? If you don't change them within a certain point of receiving them do they lock them out?
This is very frustrating as I have 2 child students with schooling at home.

@AKJake, Welcome to HP Support Community!
No, the cartridges do not have any time limit, maybe the ink that was shipped is defective.
