Printer connection for Instant ink

I want to add an additional printer to my instant ink account. This printer belonged to my wife who no longer uses it. It was set up on a hp account for her fir billing and instant ink. The printer won't add to instant ink and I get an error code UA_400_EB000U0422 and there is reference to the printer being associated with another account (probably.my wife's).  I have removed the printer from her hp account as well as canceling her instant ink account several weeks ago.

The instant ink cartridges are locked to the printer that has the ink account.

This is all I know about Instant Ink and other subscriptions.

I do not have an instant ink printer. My understanding is that if you run out of ink, or you cancel your subscription, you can use genuine Hewlett Packard cartridges either original or refilled. They must have an HP chip in the cartridge.
The below type is unlikely to work.

Note that this is a peer to peer forum and I am just the messenger of this bad news: Instant ink cartridges can only be used when the ink subscription is active.   HP is not the only company that wants their own ink used. The last time I checked, Epson, Canon and Brother all do the same.

While HP Instant Ink printers can be used with no subscription, select HP Plus printers may require a subscription to operate.
