Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

I have an HP 9130e printer and an instant ink subscription. I have a message coming up on the printer to say that there is a cartridge or account issue and I am unable to print.
I have checked the printer and inks are approx 1/2 full, they are HP cartridges. My printer is connected to the internet with a good signal. I have checked my account and the details are all up to date and the next payment is not due for 2 weeks. I have followed all of the guidance given on the website but still no joy. My printer is out of guarantee but has been working without issue until the message came up. I did change internet provider and the dates possibly coincide with the issue.  My app tells me the printer is not connected to the internet but gives me ink status etc. I have tried to  re-add the printer with no success - any suggestions please?!

-- How it is supposed to work --

Start here

Get HP Instant Ink Support Website – Your printer connections

Tip: There are two kinds of connectivity that can affect your printer: connecting externally to HP services (internet), and connecting your printer to your wireless router (Wi-Fi)

Scroll down and select information

For example, in subsection “Related Subjects

Video  Cannot connect to Web Services

Document  My printer is not connected to the internet

No Joy?

📢  Consider contacting Instant Ink Support when the office is open.

-- What else? --

Not sure -- the Web Services should connect the printer to the Internet when supported by your IPv4 connection to your network.

There might indeed be something going on that is related to having an Instant Ink subscription -- there are underlying dependencies in Instant Ink that can impact the service.

The following might -- or might not -- help resolve the issue.

All is offered in good faith.

If not done,

  • Consider upgrading your printer to a manual / static IP address.
  • If Ethernet is an option, use it to add stability.

Next,

  • Restart printer, router, and computer(s).

-- What if? --

In an extreme circumstance you could Restore the printer to Factory settings.  This might work but also carries the burden of having to completely set up the printer from the beginning.

For example, Factory removes all the network information, wipes out all / any Quick Sets / Profiles, and resets all your paper size / type settings.  Do not do this unless you are prepared to do the work to restore the printer.

AND

Restoring the printer to Factory Defaults wipes out your connection to Instant Ink -- since you already have a "can't print" issue, losing the rest of the connection to Instant Ink might not seem worse, but it is certainly not going to make things easier.

-- Examples --

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Advanced Settings > Web Services

EWS_9135_Network_Advanced_Web_Services_1EWS_9135_Network_Advanced_Web_Services_1

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

EWS_9135_Network_Primary_Ethernet_Status_IPv4_1EWS_9135_Network_Primary_Ethernet_Status_IPv4_1

OR

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.
