I am having the same issue - I have followed all of the suggested fixes, but the tri-color cartridge is still either reporting that it is not compatible or that it needs to be replaced.
My Instant Ink account indicates that it will not send a replacement while the error exists - so frustrating. I can't clear the error and I'm having trouble reaching someone that can tell me what to do next.
The Virtual Assistant could not provide any more information.
I don't want to go out and buy a new cartridge to clear the error so Instant Ink can send me a cartridge (?) that would be silly.
