Hello Everyone
I purchased my HP5525 in Dubai but have since moved to Thailand.
They tell me that HP controls the market by installing a chip that will not allow my printer (purchased in Dubai) to accept a new genuine HP cartidge purchased in Thailand.
The only solution is to purchase a new printer. If this is the case HP will never see another dollar from me, as my HP hardware ages I will be looking at other brands.
Before I throught my HP5525 from the window does anyone know if this is a fact?
Brother is now producing a injet with external inks and the black alone prints 6,000 copies dropping the copy price to almost nothing and no issues for global citizens.

Anyone else been FORCED to buy another printer because of this issue??

Hi,
No, you don't have to buy new printer, you can ask HP in Thailand to give you a secrete code OR instructions how to reset it and you can use inks in Thailand.
Regards.

Many thanks
Though a scret code seems a very weird and time consuming solution for an issue that many people must have.
Why would HP put it's customer through this?
I will try and call them but having already had a battery issues with my HP lap top they were pretty useless.
Thanks

Well at this stage I am totally unimpressed with customer service. Afer 2 hours of of having access to my computer and doing test upon test, I am still unable to print using a local cartridge.
After one customer service call I have never heard from HP again.
Here the kicker, as only the black work they asked me to go a get my Dubai cartridges refilled so they can make the code changes to Thailand.
There is nowhere in Phuket to get refills done and apprently the printer does not accept refills anyway. So I now have a HP printer that can not be used in Thailand and although HP assured me this could be resolved I have never heard from them again. Every email I respond to gets kicked back even though they ask me to repond
Here is an example of chat which I also can seem to find on their site.
