I'm still gathering data on my end, but figured I'd share what I've found out today.

 

After talking to users who've experienced this error, I've found the 'origin' of two of the original files. One was created in Word 2003 and one was created in Word 2010. Going to see if I can get copies of the original files to see if I can find out anything from those.

 

I did install a fresh copy of Windows 10 with Office 2010 to see if I could create a file that would reproduce this issue from scratch, but have been unsuccessful so far (couldn't find a copy of Office 2003).

I've raised the issue with Apple through our enterprise account.

 

Regarding the document origin; several of the documents we have been trying to print were created in Word 2016 for a conference we are holding next year. So, it does happen for the newer documents as well.

We experience the same issue mainly with PDF documents. Specially PDF documents created on MacOS 10.13. We were using the generic PS driver, and could only print PDF files opening them in Acrobat Reader

 

Changing to a PCL driver seems to resolve the issue, allowing us to print from a browser or Preview, as well

Have the same issuie with several MFP:s 880, 680, 775 etc. Anyone that heard something new concerning this?

Q: has anyone tried to do something/modify the driver in CUPS?

I have changed the driver and other settings via CUPS. I've also removed the printer and re-added it with different driver settings. As far as I can tell, if a postscript driver is used, this error still occurs. 

 

 I'll also note/reiterate that I am currently running 10.11.6 on my computer. But I am still able to reproduce this issue with a number of PDF's that were created in 10.13. In these cases:

  • The DOCX file was created in Windows, using Office 2010 (and 2003)
  • Then emailed to someone running 10.13 (where this person experienced the PS error)
  • From 10.13 a PDF was created from the DOCX file, but printing the PDF still yielded the error. And the error persists, regardless of the version of Mac OS used to print this PDF.
  • Printing the DOCX file from other versions of Mac OS does NOT yield the error.
  • Changing the font of the DOCX file from 'Calibri' to something else seems to allow the 10.13 user to print the file without the error.

Apple support told me to contact Microsoft. Using their support feature, one suggestion was to go to Font Book, click on edit and select "look for enabled duplicates" and let the system automatically resolve. And it worked - I was able to print Calibri font in Microsoft Word for Mac.

I attempted this fix with Font Book on a laptop running 10.13, but the 'Look for Enabled Duplicates' option showed 'No Duplicates Found'. Attempted printing a file known to cause the error, but still received the printed error.

And I don't think this is an across-the-board issue with 'Calibri'. I've created a number of documents from MS Word (ver 15.29) with Calibri as the default font, and all of these documents have printed normally. So far, the only DOCX files that yield the printed error (and that I've been able to find the source computer), were created in Windows.

You are right, I don't have calibri on my mac and I still have the problem.
