HP Installer has installed the Photosmart D110 Series printer and it is working fine...HOWEVER, HP Installer is constantly trying to install the driver AGAIN. I have killed the program with <CTRL><ALT><DEL> and the MS Task Manager but it will not stay killed...HP Installer keeps coming back....every 10 seconds sometimes. It will stay away periodically for a few hours but always comes back. I have re-booted the computer repeatedly and tried to kill off anything that might be keying HP Installer to keep trying.

This has been going on for weeks!!  How do I kill HP Installer without removing the existing driver and printer installation?

I have asked this question here more than once but have not received a reply that will do it. If you know how, please email me at {Personal Information Removed}

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Wood-Man,

Open the services.msc file, and then check to see if you have HP device discovery or HP product assistant still running?

Thank you for the response.

Where is the "services.msc" file and with what am I supposed to open it?

Thanks and regards

Hi Wood-Man,

Type services.msc in run (XP) or search for programs and files (Vista or Win 7), and then look in the list of services on the right hand side of the screen for the services.

Altough you did not state what to do if I found the file/program, I assumed I should delete it, which I did.

This DID NOT resolve the problem...HP Installer is still trying to install an already installed driver/printer.

I am traveling and the wifi connectivity is not too good in several locations. In order that I do not have to go to my email site and then to the HP site to respond, it would be appreciated if you would communicate with me directly {Personal Information Removed} When - IF - the proper solution for my problem is found, we, either or both of us, can post the correct answer on the forum,

I have the same issue.  I tried your solution.  I need to know exactly what program I stop or delete as you are

not clear on that.

Hi

Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.

From Original installation CD:

1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer

2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-80511-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-80511-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

HP Install has - several times - run the L3uninstall.exe and I have re-booted the computer BUT it keeps coming back!!!!

Please note the following:

a) The driver and printer are installed properly and the printer is operating properly and successfully. I, therefore, am very reluctant to unistall this good copy for fear that I will not be able to have a proper subsequent install  as I need the printer

b)  The driver/program that HP Install is trying to install is flawed and has an error forcing HP Install to abort the installation and run the uninstall and clean up...which seem to be done successfully.

c)  Immediately after clearing the uninstall and the clean up, HP Install starts running again to install the same flawed driver

Therefore, it would seem, the program/file that is calling HP Install and telling it to run has to be deleted.

a)  What program is calling HP Install and telling it to run?

b) How is that program/file removed?

Thank-you and regards,

Larry

Hi Wood-Man,

Something is not being installed correctly onto your system. We need to completely scrub the installation you currently have installed, and then reinstall it. When you have installed it before you indicated that you have had the installer error out prior to finishing the installation. Please follow the steps below to clean and reinstall this printer onto the computer.

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. Run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  5. Click the Services tab. Place a check mark in the Hide All Microsoft Services box.
  6. Click the Disable All button.

For what it is worth, I got on line with support from India.  After being directed to a wrong phone number, II finally

got someone who I gave access to my PC. She cleaned out all of the multiple instances of the installer running.

She was finally able to get it to stop.  However when she went to reinstall the drivers, the same thing started over again.

She told me the problem was with the Microsoft Installer and  I had to call Microsoft.  I called Microsoft and

was told HP had to fix the problem since it came with the PC when I bought it a couple months ago.  I called HP

back and the person suggested I try to install the software on my Laptop to see if it was an intalled problem.  I was

able to install the software and print with my laptop.  I then went back to my desktop (without any help from HP) and uninstallled all of the printer software I could find.  I then DISABLED my virus protection software and installed the

software without any problem.  The printer is working and the INSTALLER went to HP hell, at least I hope it has.

It is very frustrating to purchase a new product to use with a new PC and have to go through this **bleep** for two days.

No excuse and it is why HP is going downhill both in products and product support.  If they don't get their **bleep** together they be gone.
