I have been trying to set the admin password on my LaserJet M302dw from the web interface or the HP Smart app, but every time I set it, when I try and log onto the printer, it never accepts my password.
I have tried 3 times, and I have needed to reset the printer to factory default every time.
Is there a trick to this? Are there characters that aren't allowed, or a maximum length? I haven't been able to find any info about setting the password in any of the documentation.
Thanks,

It depends on what complexity is set. Secure passwords are typically minimum 8 characters and must include at least one upper case, one number and one special character example Blue450! would be a valid password.

Also, be aware that you use admin (all lower-case) as the user when logging in after setting an Administrator Password, not any other user.

I did use admin, all lower case, as the username when trying to log in. The Smart app gave me a pop up dialog box for the username and password, and admin was already set as the username, so that's what I went with.
Just for some additional info, I use 1Password as my password management app. I typically allow it to create passwords for me for things like this. An example password typically looks like this:
LnJDGR@r,92eKGVuc.7fgymy
24 characters, 3 digits, 3 symbols, and avoiding ambitious characters like zero and O.
Is it possible that this is too long, or contains characters that are not allowed in the password string? I have seen that on some other apps, and when I run into that I replace the un-allowed characters (usually some or most of the symbols) with characters that are acceptable.

16 character limitation is likely. Here are the security settings for enterprise products, should be similar restrictions.
