M210dw

Have seen it posted a few times with no resolution other than "will PM you the answer".

I have a M210dw printer in which will not pull an IP address as the TCP/IP v4  status (wired) constantly sits at 'initializing'

It may randomly initialize and pull the assigned IP, but as soon as it goes to sleep or is rebooted, it sticks back to 'initializing'

I saw one answer that says to reset the NVRAM [on similar models] but i cannot find how to do that on this device.

So far ive;

-Rebooted

-Have device directly to the wall outlet

- reset settings to default

-unplugged and help power button for 60 seconds

-tested the netwrok but it does the same thing even when not connected

-left the device unplugged from power for over 24hours

Currenlty the network report shows its status as "initializing"

Another option would be to contact HP directly if you have any remaining warranty left on your model.  HP may not share the entire Service Manual with you but they shoudl be able to share specific steps such as how to Cold Reset.  If you find out be sure to post back and share with us the steps.

When there is no warranty remaining you can sometimes turn to your local HP Certified repair shop or technician.  They would have access to the full catalog of Service Manuals if one exists for your model.  They may be able to share the steps with you over the phone if you ask politely.

One last thought would be that perhaps the NIC is shorted or damaged in some way.  You could try to remove and reseat the NIC to see if that fixes the problem.  NICs that are embedded into the formatter would require a formatter replacement.

If you are currently relying on Automatic/DHCP then consider migrating to a Static IP address insted.  Static IP addresses generally work better for network installations both in terms of reliability and software configuration with your connected PCs/devices.

>I saw one answer that says to reset the NVRAM

NVRAM resets would wipe out the network configuration where as most Restore Default functions will not.  This is helpful if you get into a situation where the IP address you want is not available and need to move the printer back to Auto/DHCP such as in a printer move situation.

I'm not finding a Service Manual for this printer in my usual resource.  The steps would be recorded there.  NVRAM or COLD resets are normally triggered during the boot process from a combination of keyboard/control panel presses in specific areas or times.  An advanced menu then displays that will allow you to Cold Reset.

DHCP/Static IP asside - the NIC never gets past "initializing"

Even with no network cable it hangs. I attempted to manually add the IP to see if anything changed and it did not. It did show the IP/subnet/gateway i set, but fails to find DNS and actually initialize still.

I am also unable to find a manual on how to access the NVRAM reset.
