Which printer are you installing? HP has done no development on the PCL5 driver for several years.

The laserjet 1010 uses a host based driver, it does not have a built in PCL interpreter.  You must use a dedicated host based driver. The PCL drivers are not compatible.

Indeed, the HP Laserjet 1010 printer only supports the Host-Based printing language, PCL 5e emulation is only supported by the Laserjet 1015 printer, not the 1010 printer, which is not supported by HP UPD:

Spoiler
PCL 5e print driver is the available with the HP LaserJet 1015 only. This driver is automatically installed with the driver CD, but must be added through the Add Printer Wizard.

The HP Laserjet 1010 printer is not supported on any later MS Windows OS versions and no drivers are available, not on Windows 7 or any later version, Windows Vista was the latest supported operating system.
