HP Laserjet M452dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Win10 Pro x64.

Printer connects/prints via USB but not via Ethernet direct connection or through router.  Printer Ethernet connection not located by install disc but is located by HP Print and Scan Doctor by IP addfress. Doctor says software not installed then DLs and installs software - but still will not print.  Uninstalled and did the whole thing over again: ditto. If I repeat Doctor without uninstall it says software (still) not installed - although it said it was installed before I ran it again.

Ethernet router/printer connection is good (port light on) and IP address displayed on printer screen so I assume the Ethernet cable/connection is OK. Network/Homegroup print sharing enabled. Windows/HP troubleshooter does not ID any issues.

Anything else I might try.

Thanks,

Hello @Hmonk The printer does have two ways to be connected but we really recommend using one at the time If you are going to perform a network installation first you want to make sure that you have an IP address on the printer connect the network cable to the place the printer will get the internet from make sure that on the port on the back of the printer where you connected the cable has a green and amber light and then go to the reports menu on the printer and print a configuration report on the right side on 1st page under product settings you will find the IPV4 that you will later on need to do the installation at that point all you want to make sure is that the IP address its different then 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.XXX.XXX since those combinations indicates that the printer its not connecting properly to the network

Go to the link below and download the pcl6 driver without the installer.  The follow the instructions where you load the printer as a local tcp/ip printer and use the driver you just download.  It will work something like add printer, next, local printer, next and then choose create port and in the drop down choose standard tcp/ip printer and then you follow the prompts until you get to the makers page and then you select have disk and navigate to where you downloaded and extracted the driver and finish up.  Good Luck.

Thanks Davidzuts,

The DL you pointed to offered three *.inf files: HPbuio1601.inf, HPge522a4_x64, and _x86.

Choosing the x64 or the 1601 yielded the same result: an M452 PCL-6 printer - that did not print.

The process apparently replaced the USB driver because after installation, the USB connection failed (printer offline). HP Doctor fixed the issue.

As an aside, the software built-in uninstaller did not work and the old installation prevented a reinstall ("took too long" error) so I had to restore my OS partition (NOT system restore - I do full OS Partition backups every two days) and reset printer to defaults and reinstall to acquire USB connection, which the subsequent Ethernet attempt, above, bricked. Again, HP Print and Scan Doctor fixed.

Is it possible to set up the printer to simultaneously print from USB and Ethernet or is it one or the other?

Perhaps, I made wrong choices in the add printer dialolg to set up Ethernet. I have attached a screen shot of the add printer dialog. Would you mind walking my through the availble options within the options.

Thanks,

Use the option add printer using tcp/ip address  or hostname.  After you click on next it will ask for the ip address which you should enter and then click on next.  It should find the printer and go to the maker's page and you just select have disk and then browse to the folder where unzipped the files and select and complete and it should work.
