I am still not able to download an compatible driver - please advise.  I go through the whole process of rebooting, unplugging and downloading the full software solution, and after  waiting a long time, I get this error message:

"X Error

An install operation took too long to execute.  This is a fatal error preventing product use.

Please restart your computer, and run this installer again.  If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product."

Please help - I'm not sure what to do now.  Again, this is for the new Windows 10 OS 64-bit, for my LaserJet Pro 400 MFP M425dn.

thank you

Hi @rwucla,

Sounds like your connection is timing out. Instead of trying to run the installer over the internet, can you save the file to your hard drive? Usually you are given an option when you start the download to Run or Save. Pick Save. Once the download is complete, open the file and the software should walk you through the installation.

Can you also connect your PC directly to the router with a cable?

AlliBee,

I've tried downloading from the saved download folder with the same error message.  I do not think it's the internet connection.

Specifically, on the HP Install Software window, there are 5 steps:  I pass "Prepare to Install", and then plug in the USB into the machine, in step 2: "Connect the Product".  Then it runs for about 10 min, until it's 99% complete, before I get the error message:

"An install operation took too long to complete.  This is a fata error preventing product use.  Please restart your computer, and run this installer again.  If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product."

So I never reach steps 3. Install, 4. Configure Product and 5. Complete

Please advise - thanks,

R

Hi @rwucla,

I found a YouTube video that I think will help.  According to this video, you need to turn off "Smart Install" on the printer control panel.

Go to https://youtu.be/cemymZbtadY

Please let me know if this works.

Thank you PeaceLily - that trick allowed me to finally get a successful install!

However...

When I tested a print page, the printer did not print 😞  The print job shows up in the See What's Printing queue, but nothing actually prints from the printer.   I rebooted everything, and still, nothing prints.

Now what?!?

Hi @rwucla,

I'm glad you were able to install your printer!

It sounds like you've got a print job stuck in the print queue. Please visit the Print Job Stuck in Queue guided troubleshooter for the steps to resolve this issue. There is often a program that runs in the background that needs to be restarted.

Please let me know how it goes.

No, unfortunately I don't think that's the case.  The printer dialogue box from Printers and Devices does not show any  jobs in the queue.  Furthermore, in Properties, I pressed Print Test Page and the nothing happens.  Please advise - thanks

Hello?

Please look at this page: Can't print after upgrading to Windows 10

If this information doesn't solve your printing issue, I'm not sure what to try next. You could try starting a new post with a full description of your issue and see if someone else has an answer.

AlliBee
