laserjet pro m1212nf mfp
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new windows 10  64 bit desktop and I can't get the printer driver installed.  Its a Laserjet pro m1212 nf connected to by router with a ethernet cable.  It shows up no problem but I can't get the driver installed.

If I go through the control panel device manager and remove then add printer I get a driver not available message.

If I download the driver directly from the HP website and run it I get a can't find printer message (although it's showing on device manager).

If I go through the windows device/driver window to load the driver I can't find the printer model (selecting HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard).

Have tried going to the %temp% folder but I can't find a HP setup.exe file in the sugested folders

Have tried unplugging the printer's power and ethernet cord multiple times.

Have tried removing the printer and all HP drivers (with reboots etc) and no luck.

I have been able to install this printer on two windows 10 laptops previously. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

HP UPD would not be applicable for such an Host-Based printer, only for PCL6 or PostScript printers.

From Devices and Printers, be sure to remove any listed instance of your printer at this time.

Download and launch the latest software for your printer below:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32629/Im-80811-7/LJM1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution.exe

Click the Start button and type %temp% into the search bar, then open the shown Temp folder.

Open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234)
Double-click HpSetup.exe and follow the installation, then check for any difference.

I have edited this post as it was pointed out that I overlooked the fact that you have a printer that uses a host based driver system. Manually install the printer. On your PC, go to control panel, devices and printers, add new printer. Select local printer and new port, create a Standard TCP/IP port and enter the Ip address of the printer. When prompted for driver, click Windows Update to search for all the current drivers. Once it completes, go to the brand "HP" and then scroll down to find the 1212 driver. On my PC I did not have a 1212 driver showing, but I selected the 1213nf driver and was able to print to an office printer just fine.

Thanks to @ShlomiL for pointing out the error in my post and hopefully you did not waste too much time chasing a wild goose.

Hi ShlomiL,

That worked - very straight forward.

I wonder why I was unable to find the "Full Solution" driver which you provided.  Searching the driver on the HP website only offered a "Upgrade Security" option.

None the less everything is working - thanks,

Great to see everything is now working @RobH4,

I did notice the lack of Windows 10 drivers at HP Support too and reported it, hope to see it fixed soon.

Cheers,

Shlomi
