I am in total agreeance with your entire outline. Unfortunatly I'm one of the lucky ones who inherited someone elses problem instead of getting something that worked correctly. I have a zd7000 Notebook and yes it comes complete with the NVIDIA GeForce 4 448 Go. Mostly it acts right, but recently I've been getting straight line copy instead of images. My email page is pretty much all line copy, some minor images, but mainly lines where you'd fill in the usual blanks. I just want to be totally clear on this, there is no fix, and I'm going to have to make do with what I have? Please let the good notebook fairy do something! I'm a average user on this machine, I've taught myself everything I could to this point, but this whole display/graphics thing has me beside myself. Let me see, became disabled last August, no ones fault but my brains, and now the one thing that keeps me sane is a work of not so good art. This is just as bad as MS telling me that in my XP PRO Media Center Edition 2005 there is NO TV TUNER or a radio! Let me see, Media Center Edition, go figure? It's all about the upgrade I've learned quite frequently! Well I guess I'll just hope for a small miracle, if anyone can help me out I'd be beyond greatful! I'll keep on reading your replies to other issues, I've enjoyed writting my first reply, and once again, if anyone can help figure these problems out with me I'll be greatful!

Just an update to my previous post.  I put the 640 GB drive in and all went well.  Thanks again!

I asked about a processor upgrade for an HP Pavilion 5218nr and you listed the Intel Core Duo t2600 as a supported processor for my board and bios.

 

I did the upgrade and can assure you that I had everything back in place where it was supposed to be, however when I turned the computer back on, the screen remained blank and you couldn't even see the initial bios screen with the big HP logo on it.

 

I popped the old CPU back in and the screen works - I was checking to see if I had broken it.  Are you sure that this CPU is supported?  What's the most recent BIOS update for my model?

PLEASE HELP!!! I have a HP dv8305us laptop and my harddrive failed.  I was looking at the Western Digital 320 gb/5400 rpm/8 mb cache harddrive.  Is this compatible for my laptop?  Also the transfer rate is 3 gb/s max.  Would this work normal if i install it on my laptop?

The HP Service and Maintenance manual for your model lists the Intel Core Duo T2600 as a compatible processor. See Table 3-7 pg. 84 in the manual.  I only list upgrade processors that are stated as supported by HP.  

The most recent version F.24 A of the BIOS is dated 10-2007.

One thing to try is a reset when you have the new processor installed.

remove the battery

unplug the ac adapter plug

press and hold the power button for around fifteen seconds.

plug the adapter plug back in and try a restart.

If the processor still does not work and the laptop boots up fine with the original processor installed then there does exist the possibility that you received a dead processor.

Without knowing whether or not the original hard disk is also a SATA2 hard disk I cannot say it will work with certainty. If the original was SATA2 then you should be able to upgrade with the Western Digital 320 gb/5400  hard disk without issues. That should be a sweet upgrade as the original IAW the specifications page was only 80GB.

 

This what the SATA connectors look like on notebook hard drives If the connector doesn't look like that one then you need an IDE hard disk.

Hi,

I don't quite understand what you mean by straight line copy.  

You can try reinstalling the graphics driver to see if it helps. There is the possibility that your graphics driver is corrupt. There are three different versions on the HP web support document.  The driver that you install must match the graphics chip (GeForce 4 448/5600) that is installed on the system board of your laptop.

Try a reset.

remove the battery and ac adapter power. Press and hold the power button for fifteen seconds. Install the battery and press the power button.

 

I suggest that you try a Linux OS live version to see if your DVD drive is operating properly. I recommend the latest Ubuntu 9.10 as it have a live OS option that does not make any changes to your hard disk. Doing this will also verify that the Windows 7 DVD is a good copy and is not faulty. If the Linux disk works then the Windows DVD has issues.
