Hi All,
Its me Adeel Software Development Engineer from Pakistan, I need to connect HP LaserJet Pro M102a via USB OTG with my Android device for printing, for this I will use https://developers.hp.com/mobile-print-sdk/quick-start HP SDK for my application development, I checked this HP list http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04024231 to confirm its Android USB OTG connectivity as this printer http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04024231 is not listed so does it means it will be able to work with HP Print Service Plugins? via USB OTG printing, I need to buy this printer after its confirmation.
Looking forward for quick response from you people, acutally initially I bought HP LaserJet Pro P1102 but it does not work with Android USB OTG with HP Print Service Plugins, please help me in this context.
Thanks,
BR,
Adeel

Hello, @Adeelkhan09
Thanks for reaching out! I'd like to help 🙂
I understand that you are looking forward to using the USB OTG feature on your Android device and the LaserJet M102a printer. Ideally, this should work fine since the printer is not on the list of devices which are not supported by this feature.
But, in the past, I have seen certain Android devices also not supporting the USB OTG feature. Even few of the HP tablet do not support this particular feature. Please check http://hp.care/2m5vCb3
Also, make sure that the Android version is also supported by this feature.
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Many thanks for your response, yes I read this earlier http://hp.care/2m5vCb
but I am not using HP Tablet devices, the Android device I am using is manufactured by other brand, its running Android Kitkat 4.4.2 so its compatible for HP Print Service Plugins and already installed, I integrated this https://developers.hp.com/mobile-print-sdk/quick-start and tested it on HP LaserJet 4345 Multifunction Printer Series with USB OTG yes its works but too much expensive printer for me, so I selected this printer HP LaserJet Pro M102a as its not mentioned it on a list.
So should I buy this HP LaserJet Pro M102a?
Thanks

Adeel

Hello, @Adeelkhan09
Thanks for the reply!
I could not find the M102A to test with the USB OTG feature and also it is not mentioned in any of the user guides, hence I cannot be completely sure about the answer.
But, I would suggest you go for HP LaserJet M102W printer instead of M102A. When I checked the printer capabilities, I found that M102A do not support the HP print service plugin which I believe is necessary for the USB OTG feature. But the LaserJet M102W is supported by all those mobile printing solutions. Hence the M102W is a better choice.
Please check http://hp.care/2m8iBxw for more detailed information on the mobile printing capabilities.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @Adeelkhan09
Thanks for the reply!
Are you trying to use the Wi-Fi direct feature to print from your Android or are you using the USB OTG? Please specify.
Your printer supports Wi-Fi direct and you can directly connect your Android to your printer with this feature and print.
If you are using the USB OTG, then check the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2nsBBnM
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂

Hi Dvortex,
Thanks for reply, I have many concerns, my observations are wrriten below with Wifi Direct and with USB-OTG Android.
1. When I used only Wifi Direct it produces some delay to print, why? even wifi is in a range.
2. I only want to use this with Android USB OTG, yes I followed all steps mentioned in this link http://hp.care/2nsBBnM
but my printer device "USB: HP LaserJet M10-M106" is greyed out means I can't select it, even I followed this link
http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04024231 and read What if I cannot select my printer? its answer I tried to fix but didn't solve my problem, even I am using latest version of HP Print Service Plugins.
I am using HP Print SDK App https://developers.hp.com/mobile-print-sdk/quick-start

Hello, @Adeelkhan09
Thanks for the update!
Let's try these steps to use the plugin more efficiently.
- first, uninstall and reinstall the HP print service plugin. Restart your Android before the reinstall.
- Then, connect your Android phone to the printers Wi-Fi direct connection. The wireless light on the printer will blink since it is not associated with the Wi-Fi direct. Do not worry about that.
- Now, disable the all the other print plugins on your Android device. (E.g. If you are using a Samsung device, disable the Samsung print plugin)
- Now, try to print using the HP print service plugin and check.
Hope that helps! Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Hi!
Did you find any solution? I've occured exactly same problem. I also checked this page and also called to customer center of hp. They send me list of printers wich is support usb otg printing. And I bought m102a model, hp print service plugin found my printer. But when I try to select printer the printer is not available and showed grayed, so I cant select the printer. I tested various android device such as android 5.1 embedded device, 6.0 samsung handphone, 5.1 android tablet.
When I tested other application PrintShare<<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamixsoftware.printershare&hl=en>> application, thi application can find m102a printer and print test page without any problem.
But why hp print service plugin cant print its own printer. which is support USB otg.
