Thank you, Sandy, but I have done all of the above, numerous times, and I still can't connect. I have spent hours on this issue. The disconnect happened out of the blue, which makes me wonder if I stopped an app on my phone that could be affecting it being able to connect.
I have the HP Print Service Plug-in, and the HP ePrint apps installed. I also disabled the Samsung Print Plug-in. I only have one printer installed. Wi-fi Direct is turned on. My phone will only allow me to create a PDF when I try to print. My printer name is no longer listed and grayed out on the page - it is not an option at all. When I try to search and connect to the printer via wi-fi, the error message says it can't connect.
When I attached the ethernet cord to the printer and the router a couple of weeks ago, I was able to connect and print one document. However, it never connected again, so I removed the ethernet cord. What else could possibly be affecting the connection?
Thank you for your help.
Marcia
P.S. This may have nothing to do with the above issue; however, when I checked Device Mgr on my computer to see if there were any problems flagged on the printer, I saw this error code: USB Composite Device can't work properly with USB 3.0. I can't figure out what this is referring to. I never changed any connections between the computer and the printer (other than trying the ethernet cord - but this error code occured before I attempted that fix). Could this error message somehow be related to my phone connecting to the printer? Thanks.

It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.
I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
Although, I'm curious to understand what you meant by - "Could it have anything to do with my Windows 10 Operating System?", while you respond to that, here's what you need to know:
If you have an android OS on your phone and have trouble installing the printer:
When you try to select your printer, the printer is not listed or unavailable (grayed out).
Resetting and clearing the Print Spooler cache can resolve the issue.
NOTE:
It is normal for a printer to be unavailable when both the printer and Android device are not on the same network. For example, your home printer might be grayed out when you are at work.
-
On your Android device, tap the Settings icon
, and the select Apps or Applications.
-
Select Show System Apps.
-
Scroll down the list, and then select Print Spooler.
Depending on your Android device, tap Storage, and then select Print Spooler.
-
Select Clear Data.
-
Open the item you want to print, tap the menu icon
, and then tap Print.
A print preview screen displays.
-
Next to Select a printer, tap the down arrow
to view the printer list, and then select your printer.
-
If you can select your printer, you can stop troubleshooting.
-
If you cannot select your printer, turn off and then turn on your Android device, and then try to print again.
-
And if you have trouble installing the printer on windows 10, try the steps mentioned in this link: https://hp.care/2o3acvH
