Okay, I really hope this works. It sounds more promising. I know you a receiving an error for Scan Doctor, but maybe the steps beforehand can assist you and then Scan Doctor will resolve too.
You can retrieve your wireless network security key or passphrase from your wireless router. To do this you will need to log into your wireless router:
- Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer
- In the address field of the browser (in place of http://www...), enter the IP address of the wireless router. You may be prompted for a user ID and password to log into the wireless router. For the default IP address and login of your wireless router, and further instructions on how to access your wireless router configuration settings, refer to your wireless router documentation or manufacturer.
- HP Print and Scan Doctor
Sorry about the frustrating plethora of information. This issue has multiple venues for solution. We will find the right one!

Okay, then do you know if you have HP wireless direct 'on' your computer? If it's not, then that is why you can't find your printer.
Turn on HP wireless direct from the printer’s control panel. On most models, you will need to access the Wireless Settings menu by pressing the Wireless button or touching the Wireless icon on the printer’s control panel. Select Wireless Direct, and then select “On” or “On (with security)” or “On (no security)” depending on your printer model. HP recommends “On (with security)” where available.

Your computer can only connect to one wi-fi at a time. Your computer's wi-fi, or your router wi-fi. So disconnect your computer from your internet and to connect to your printer.
