I have just started to use the new HP smart app after using the HP e print app on my desk jet 4500 and iPad Pro. The old app seems to seamlessly link into my email and documents but this new app does not mention email at all. It is not as user-friendly. I do not believe that this printer is air print compatible. Can you give me any instructions to link my AIM.com email account to the new printer app?

Hi,
I had assumed that you had an envy 4500 printer. Your F4580 is not AirPirnt enabled and this is wht it's not seeing the printer. My apologies - I should have double checked he printer model earlier.
It will only work with HP ePrint, the HP print service plugin for android and HP print for chrome. Working through chrome on your IOS device might be your best bet.
I've inlcuded a link below with some info on print for chrome

Hi,
Your 4500 printer should be AirPrint compatible. The new smart app doesn't have integrated email access, however you can easily access and print your emails from your IOS email app via AirPrint.
As long as your printer and IOS devices are connected to the same wifi network you shoudl be able to use AirPrint. Try restarting your IOS device if you;re still having problems with Airprint.

Hi
thank you for your reply. I got quite excited, but, no..... the rebooted iPad does not find the HP Desktop 4500 as an air printer.
The printer works wirelessly from my very old notebook but now that the HP ePrint app no longer supports IOS and the HP Smart app does not link through to documents or email, is the printer now redundant?

Hi,
Can you confirm that the printer is definitely connected to your home wifi and the ipad is also connected? Could it be that your old notebook is connected via wifi direct (wifi direct is a wifi signal generated my your printer when in wifi direct mode, it's recognisable by the printer model in the network name)?

Hi and thank you for your reply.
yes, I can go firm that the printer is connected to my home wifi (have just changed routers do had to do that) and the iPad is connected to the same network.
There is no evidence of the printer model in a network name.
I really appreciate your your efforts to help.
thank you.

Hi,
Did the issue start after you changed routers? Do you know what band your router is operating on - it'll need to be 2.4GHz band for your printer work properly on it.

The problem did arise after changing the router but only after the HP ePrint app support for IOS was withdrawn. (It was ok on the new router up until then). I tried the HP Smart app but could not get it to find email or documents. I can confirm that the printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz band.
Purchase date of printer January 2010 but as only home use still in good order.

Hi,
Can you post the exact model of your printer - is it an Envy 4500? One other thing that might be worth trying is a restart of the printer - power it down and unplug it for 30 seconds before powering up again. Check the connection again and if unsuccesful, restart the router also and check again.

It is an HO Deskjet F4580.
The printer has been restarted countless times (every time I try to use it) as it is not switched on permanently.
I have just restarted the router and checked again.
iPad and printer both showing connected to wifi.
No change in anything.
thank you for your persistence.
