OJP 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The wifi signal originating from my HP OJP 8610 is strong enough that my neighbor says his iPhone and iPad are automatically connecting to that, rather than his own local wifi signal.  That's troublesome as it connects him to my printer rather than to the internet.  And he has been unable to change the priority of various wifi signals on his iDevices, or to "forget" those unusable signals.

I am trying to turn off the (Bonjour?) signal originating from the printer.

I don't need any web printing services and so have disabled all web services from the printer.  However the signal from the printer persists.

How can I disable that wifi signal without limiting my ability to print from iPad to my AirPrint printer?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks MKazi for your response.

You said, "Looks like you have enabled Wireless Direct . . ."  That was helpful, and it turns out all I had to do was t turn it off.  Sounds simple, but it had escaped me.

The rest of your suggestions missed the point that I wanted to discontinue the wifi signal coming from the printer, while still being able to have the printer available on the local wifi network.  Setting the security password on the Wireless Direct would not have solved my problem.

Thanks for posting on the HP Support Forums. MKazi is at your service.

I understand that the wifi signal originating from your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer is strong enough that your neighbor has his iPhone and iPad automatically connecting to the printer.

Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

Looks like you've enable the wireless direct feature on the printer and connect your devices wirelessly to the printer without using a router.

During my research, I came across the user guide for the printer.

On page # 112 of the user guide, it talks about enabling the Security Passcode for the wireless direct feature. By doing this only users with the password can connect wirelessly to the printer. Without enabling security, anyone with a wireless device within the wireless range of the printer can connect to the printer.

I genuinely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to keep me posted on how it goes.

Good luck! 🙂
