HP Smart App Duplex Scanning
iOS
Hello there,

My printer supports duplex scanning but the HP Smart app on iOS doesn't appear to. Short of scanning using the printer control panel or my laptop, does anyone know how to scan duplex from a mobile device?

Hello, @johnnymercer74 - Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

Currently, the app does not support duplex scanning. It was designed to support a variety of scanners/printer. This somewhat limits the options available and the 2-sided scanning is not supported.

Though you can't automatically duplex scan via HP Smart App, you can setup "Scan to Email" for your printer and send to an email configured on your iOS device. You should be able to select Two-Sided scanning from the printer screen once scanning to an email is configured.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂

Hi Dvortex,

I'm also facing the same problem as @jonnymercer74 -- I want to do two sided scanning using the HP Smart app.

I understand that the app has to work for a range of HP printers and scanners but it would be really helpful if it could provide two sided scanning for those devices that do support this, like my OfficeJet Pro 8270. As stands I'm unable to do two sided scanning at all because I don't have my printer/scanner plugged into a PC, the HP Smart app doesn't do two sided, and the Google Drive app scans every second page upside down -- very frustrating.

It would be great if you can ask your development team to add this much needed feature to HP Smart to help everyone with two sided scanners 🙂

Thanks!

Hi DVortex,

My printer also supports duplex scanning and HP Smart is really an inadequate replacement for AiO. Duplex scanning should be available within the app, I am disappointed in the "Scan to Email" option as a workaround.  Is there an ETA from HP development on when the duplex option will be restored? Or is this option not going to become available in the future?

Thanks

Thanks for escalatng this, @Dvortex! I'd appreciate if you could ask the support team to follow-up with me as well as @bluris as I'm also keen to see this resolved.

This is stupid.  The old HP assistant had a duplex option.  Are we going backwards here?  I have no scan to email option on my HP Smart app.  Isn't two sided scanning for printers that support it a given in today's world?

I've just had a 8710 delivered from HP directly and was told on the phone when ordering that I can duplex scan. I've searched the HP Smart app and there's no functionality. Scan to email is not a practical way for me to do this. Please can you advise of a suitable solution to remedy this situation.
