HP Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Model HP Envy 5660

Issue: Cannot print to photo tray or change to photo tray on printer.

Printing photo sends to letter size tray. I have removed the letter paper, restarted the printer, etc.

This issue seems to be an old one and never resolved by anything suggested by HP techs.

Hi @PalmettoPhil

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the Tray Settings.

Load only one type of paper at a time into the paper or photo tray. When loading the tray, make sure the paper is loaded correctly.

Please follow these steps to select the print settings -

1. From your software, select Print.
2. Make sure your printer is selected.
3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences.
4. Select the appropriate options.

● On the Layout tab, select Portrait or Landscape orientation.
● On the Paper/Quality tab, select the appropriate paper type from the Media drop-down list in the Tray Selection area, and then select the appropriate print quality in the Quality Settings area.
● Click Advanced to select the appropriate paper size from the Paper Size drop-down list.

5. Click OK to return to the Properties dialog box.
6. Click OK, and then click Print or OK in the Print dialog box.

This does not resolve the problem it only poses as a workaround. The issue is with routing the print to the 4x6 photo tray. We have removed the paper from the letter-sized tray and only placed 4X6 photo paper in the photo tray which sits atop the letter tray. Neither the printer, windows print commands, or the Windows 10 photo viewer will allow the user to change the destination to the photo (4x6) tray. This never occurred with the Photosmart printer we had prior to purchasing the Envy 5660. I have seen that this issue exists with multiple Envy series printers and it is rampant, not occasional.
