HP ENVY 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have 3 computers that print using the HP EVNY 7640 for the past 2 years with no problems until the last 2 weeks. All computers are on Windows 10. Two of the three computers print through my wireless network. The other computer prints via USB. The 2 printers that print through the wireless network have not been able to print for the past 2 weeks and when I attempt to print I get messages that indicate "Printer is Off Line" or "Printer is not available". I have uninsalled and reinstalled the printer software on all 3 computers and still have the problem. I have checked my Linksys router and it shows the printer as "On Line" . I have made no changes to any software or routers other than normal Windows 10 updates. The wireless network itself seems to be working just fine. I have no problems printing with USB connection. I have check the wireless settings on the printer itself and they look OK to me. I have been through the troubleshooter as well and none of the solutions worked

Suggestions on how to fix are appreciated & thank you

Welcome to the HP Support Community

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print.

If the issue persists, Assign Manual IP to the printer:

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.

2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.

3) Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.

4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.

5) Go to the Network tab.

6) Click on Networking from the left pane.

7) Then click on Network Address (IP).

😎 Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.

9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.

10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.

11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g

Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Thanks very much for offering some suggestions.

I have downloaded the print & scan doctor - it found the printer - i ran the program and it "fixed port issues". I then tried to print a test page and nothing printed. I then click on the "no print" button and the program froze up and I had to restate the computer. I did this a second time, same result.

I then ran the HP network configuration page from the printer and input the IP address into my firefox web browser and then was able to change IPv4 IP address on the web page to what was shown on the Network configuration page that I printed. All other numbers on the web page were the same as on the printout from the printer

Still cannot print wirelessly. When I try to print an MS Outlook email I now get a "Printer Not Ready" message. Outlook does see the correct printer and I saw a message that said it was printing pages 1 and 2 before I received the "Printer Not Ready" message. The printer was not asleep when I did this.

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/... to download and install the HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Have a great day!

Cheers:)

Thanks again for your help. I want to give this a try. Should I perform the above operation on all 3 of my computers that use the HP ENVY 7640 or just the 2 computers that print through the wireless network? The 3rd one is USB connection and it works fine.

I just finished uninstalling and reinstalling all the software as per instructions above on one of the computers that prints via the network - New driver was sucessfully installed. Unfortunatly, when I try to print anything out - the screen shows that it is printing but then i get a message stating "Printer is Not Ready" and nothing prints

Just just typed in my IP address into my firefox web browser and when I clicked on Network configuration settings, I was able to print the Network Configuration page wirelessly. However, I cannot printout anything else (example - A MS Word document) - & continue to get a "Printer not Ready" message

Does this help in any way?

As the USB is working fine you need not to do any changes in that.

Keep me posted!

Have a great day!
