HP ENVY PHOTO 7800 ALL IN ONE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Connecting printer to computer.

Having purchased the HP ENVY 7800 printer and following set up was able to print from my mobile phone. But my computer is not finding or recognising the printer. Have reloaded software, followed other troubleshooting advice but no connection enabled.

All the relevant software from hp123 has been installed correctly.

When running the wireless network test result it states “more than one access point or wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name ( SSID). If this is not intended HP printer may connect to wrong wireless network.

Other results showed 17 wireless networks, network name found - pass, connectivity passed. Security passed.

Not sure what to do, checked firewall settings, turned router, printer & computer off & on.

The computer is seeing the HP ENVY 7800 network on available networks but can not connect to it.

Should the printer not work of the home network already set up rather than the HP network.

It does work when I manually change to a unsecured network like BT - Fon but it is unsecure so do not prefer to use. Can you also explain which network it should be working on ??

Mobile phone printing is fine, although strange messages come up about recognising old networks. Probably the HP network I had previously.

Baffled please help. Never had this with other HP printers and the fact I can print from phone but not desktop computer is baffling.

Please contact me by email or phone to help further.

@karan150700,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! This is a great location to get resolutions and interact with experts from the community. I see that you are having issues while connecting your printer to the network. The printer needs to be connected to the new router. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you checked the router network settings as this printer support only 2.4GHz. If your router support 5GHz then you would need to change it to 2.4GHz and try.

Have you tried to change the frequency on the printer - either 1, 6, 11 or vice-versa

Have you tried to install a full feature software for the printer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Is the printer connected to the network? Check the wireless light. If the light is steady blue, then the printer is connected to the network. If the light is flashing, then the printer is not connected to the network. Go to Setup - Network - Wireless setup wizard to connect the printer to the newtork.

Once the printer is connected to the network, then assign a static IP to the printer:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Now, try the steps below to install the printer over the network:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Open the Run window (Press Windows logo key + R), type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Now click on this link:  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/EN7800/EN7800_Full_WebPack_44.3.2218.exe to download and install the printer software.
  • Select Wireless option on the connection page and then finish the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,
