HP Photosmart 6520
Android 8.0 - 8.1 Oreo

Hello,

I'm not abble to print photo's from any android phone/tab to my photo tray.

Printer: HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer series

Operating system: Android 8

I'm using HP smart with the HP print service plugin selected  tray manual photo or automatic.(neither works).

When trie to print it prints on paper of the main tray, even when i remove paper from th main tray it won't print to the photo tray.

I have no problems  with windows or apple device(iphone).

It seems like a problem with the service plugin.

Anyone with the same problem or a solution?

Hi! @Vishnu001,

Please share the printer model name to assist better.

Try updating the smartphone and HP smart app to the latest version and check if it helps.

Try printing using a different brand of paper.

Try the steps recommended below.

Install or update the HP Print Service Plugin on your Android OS 4.4 or later device from the Google Play Store, and then turn on the plugin.

   note:

Menus, icons, and the location of the print settings vary depending on Android version and device manufacturer.

1.Make sure your Android device is connected to the same wireless network that your printer is connected to, or that Wi-Fi Direct on your printer and Android device is enabled.

2.On your Android device, install or update the HP Print Service Plugin (in English) from the Google Play Store.

3.Once the installation or update is complete, choose a method to turn on the HP Print Service Plugin:

   note:

On Android devices with 7.0 (Nougat) and later, the HP Print Service Plugin has turned on automatically after installation. Skip to the step to Print with the HP Print Service Plugin.

• If this is the first time you installed the HP Print Service Plugin, swipe down the home screen to display the notification dashboard, and then find HP Inc. service installed.

If you updated the HP Print Service Plugin, tap Settings, tap More, More networks, More settings, or NFC and sharing, and then tap Print or Printing.

4.Tap HP Inc. service installed or HP Inc. and then tap On.

5.Turn off any other print service plugins, if necessary.

Your Android device is now ready to print using the HP Print Service Plugin.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

You can use HP Smart app to print photos:

  1. Open the HP Smart app, tap Print Documents, Print Photos, or select your cloud storage or social media account.

Locate the file on your mobile device, social media, or cloud account.

  2. If you have not yet added your cloud or social media account, follow the on-screen prompts.

  3. Select the document or photo you want to print.

A preview of the document or photo displays.

  4. Tap Print.

@ A4Apollo

Thanks for your reply,

As I indicated in my first message,

Printer: HP Photosmart 6520 (All-in-One Printer series)

Operating system: Android 8 also tried on Android 9.

I have the latest version of HP Smart & HP service plugin.

I finally succeeded to print to the photo tray when i selcect  4x6 "(not at 10x15mm). But then I have the following problem  on 4x6 "the photo is printed with very thick edges unprinted, even when i select border less.

So it comes down to that if I want to use the photo tray I still need a Windows PC or or an apple phone. It would be nice if I could use my android phone or tablet.

It woud be nice if the plugin woud be udated with a solution.

Regards,

Vishnu

Hi! @Vishnu001,

Thanks for writing back to us.

The printer you are using does not support borderless.

Refer the printer specifications page for more information. Click Here

Also, as you are printing pictures you have to select 4x6 or 5x7 to print from the photo tray.

Lastly, try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.

Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here

Hope this helps!

Take Care!

Hello A4pollo,

Thank you for helping t o find a solution.

The printer I'm using does support borderless printing.

  • See product specification supplied with the printer(insertet photo: HP Photosmart 6520 Sheet)
  •  Printer was sold as a printer that prints borderless photos, also recommended by the seller and recommended by the HP community(insertet photo: HP Photosmart 6520 Recommendation)
  • No problem with borderless printing with Apple device(Iphone & Macbook) to phototray.
  • No problem with borderless printing with window device(windows 7  & 10) to phototray.
  • I already have the latest firmware on my printer.
  • With android and th HP service plugin I can print to the photo tray when i selcect  4x6 ", but it must also support  10x15mm which is still not the case.

I still hope it will be solved so I could use my android phone or tablet to print my photo's, mayby with a update  of the HP service plugin.

If you have another solution, please let me know.

Hi! @Vishnu001,

Thanks for the update.

Try the steps recommended below to print borderless from HP smart app.

Go to HP Smart App > Select the photo to print > Select More options > Under Photo tabenable borderless printing.

If the issue persists, try these steps:

  • Update Android device
  • Uninstall and reinstall HP Smart app

Lastly, resetting and clearing the Android OS Print Spooler cache can resolve the issue.

  1. On your Android device, tap the Settings icon , and the select Apps or Applications.

  2. Select Show System Apps.

  3. Scroll down the list, and then select Print Spooler.

Depending on your Android device, tap Storage, and then select Print Spooler.

  4. Select Clear Cache and Clear Data.

  5. Open the item you want to print, tap the menu icon , and then tap Print.

    A print preview screen displays.

  6. Next to Select a printer, tap the down arrow to view the printer list, and then select your printer.
