I am trying out functions on my new ENVY 5540. Everything is set up and working correctly so far. I have just printed a document from my iPad using the WIFI Direct function on the printer with success. However, the default password on the printer for WIFI Direct is simply "12345678". Surely, this should be changed to a more secure password. My friend printed something from his iPad -so obviously, this password isn't exclusive to me and anyone can print stuff on my printer just for fun and as I have many students around me, the problem could become expensive for me and very annoying. The WIFI Direct signal carries for some distance. I contacted HP phone support but the process was taking a long time and I had to hang up because I had to work. Maybe someone here could forward me instructions and I can change the password when I have some free time. I don't use wifi for the internet (only an ethernet cable) and have the printer connected via a usb to the computer. Also, when I turn on the wireless function on my computer (BUT NOT THE ROUTER), the printer is found and all I have to do is enter "12345678" and start printing. There's no security whatsoever. Can someone tell me how to change the WIFI Direct password for the envy 5540? Thanks.

Thanks for answering my question. I thought it would be as easy as changing the password on the printer's touchscreen but that option wasn't available. I had to download the user manual from HP to read how to get onto the EWS page and changed the password successfully.

Thanks again sabretooth04. In my defence, I did read the manual supplied with the printer (5 pages of it) and it only stated to change the wifi direct setting from auto to manual but not how to change the password. Your reponse prompted me to download the full manual from HP (138 pages) and see how to open the EWS page. The option to change passwords would be simpler by using the printer's touchscreen-but I suppose there's only so much they can cram into the printer. Maybe other countries get a different version to mine? I noticed in the HP video for the 5540 in the US showed the touchscreen as being in colour (not mono) for instance and using the touchscreen to setup didn't offer me the same options as in the video.
