Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Using HP Smart Tank Plus 555

Unable to print embedded images in Word 10 and Excel 2010.

Only part of image comes out.

As both Word and Excel print well on other printers, problem must be with HP compatibility.

Please help, HP staff have just shut the door and buried their heads in the sand!

Welcome to the support community.

I understand that you are unable to print from MS Word and Excel.

This seems to be a driver issue, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer-related software.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install the printer using the HP Smart app

Many thanks for your excellent in depth reply on this issue, most impressive.

However, this is not the answer. I discovered the true solution after years of suffering this problem and endless reams of paper, wasted ink and fruity language.

Solution: After cutting the image from web, I was downloading it into Word and printing. What I failed to spot was that some "individual" at "Microsoft" had added an extra function button within the paste function. If the first button is chosen the image will be embedded using the formatting parameters used on the web (you don't want this). The button next to this one embeds the image as a picture (using your settings) which you want. Print the document using HP as normal and "hey presto" it works!

So really it is a Microsoft thing and not an HP error.
