HP OfficeJet 6962
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi

I can't get my MacBook to recognize my new HP OfficeJet 6962.  It recognizes surrounding offices' Printers, but not the one I am working next to.

When I go through the Set up Process, another printer is the only choice I have to "set up" The HP Officejet Pro 9010.  I have tried to print and nothing happens on my printer. I guess my stuff is going to s strange printer near by??

Are you trying to connect through the Office WiFi?

Please Note that Office Networks require special permission to setup printers on the Network. You will need to contact your Office Admin or IT Team to configure the printer and get it connected to the Office Network.

Meantime you can try using WiFi-Direct to connect your MAC directly to your Printer without using the Office Network

To turn on Wi-Fi Direct

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wi-Fi Direct).

2. Touch ( Settings ).

3. If the display shows that Wi-Fi Direct is Off , touch Wi-Fi Direct and then switch it on.

To print from a wireless-capable MAC

1. Make sure you have turned on Wi-Fi Direct on the printer.

2. Turn on Wi-Fi on the computer. For more information, see the documentation provided by Apple.

3. Click the Wi-Fi icon and choose the Wi-Fi Direct name, such as DIRECT-**-HP 2ffLce-et 6960 (where ** are the unique characters to identify your printer). If Wi-Fi Direct is turned on with security, enter the password when prompted.

Note: To get the password

  • Touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon  or open the Wi-Fi Direct settings menu to get the name and password.

  • Go to the Reports menu, and then select Network Summary or Network config. to print a network summary page. The name and password is under the Wi-Fi Direct section

You can also try the default password 12345678

4. Add the printer.

a. Open System Preferences .

b. Depending on your operating system, click Printers & Scanners .

c. Click + below the list of printers at the left.

d. Select the printer from the list of detected printers (the word “Bonjour” is listed the right column beside the printer name), and click Add.
