Hi @Pat345,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The "printer is busy" error on your HP ENVY Inspire 7220e All-In-One Printer can be due to several reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try printing again.
Check Printer Queue:
- On your computer, go to the print queue to see if there are any pending print jobs.
- Cancel all pending print jobs and try printing again.
- On Windows: Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers" > right-click on your printer > "See what's printing" > cancel all documents.
- On Mac: Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners" > select your printer > click "Open Print Queue" > cancel all documents.
Reset the Printing System (Mac):
- Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners".
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select "Reset printing system".
- This will remove all printers and reset the printing system.
- Re-add your printer and try printing again.
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
- If using Wi-Fi, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
- If using a USB cable, make sure the connection is secure.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer.
- You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Pat345,
Please find the next set of steps below.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve such issues.
- Go to the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings or tools menu, and look for firmware update options.
- Or go to HP support website
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows):
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP Support website.
- This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve many printing and scanning problems.
Clear Any Error Messages on the Printer:
- Check the printer's display for any error messages and resolve them.
Reinstall the Printer:
- Remove the printer from your computer and then add it again.
- On Windows: Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers" > right-click on your printer > "Remove device". Then, re-add the printer.
- On Mac: Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners" > select your printer > click the minus sign (-) to remove it. Then, re-add the printer.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, there might be a hardware issue with the printer. In such cases, contact HP phone Support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
